SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 724,583, dated April '7, 1903.
Application filed June 23,1902. Serial No. 112,803. (No model.)
citizen of the United States, residing at Bos-' ton, in the county of Suflolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Benches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the. bench. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is an end view. Fig. 4 is a cross-section through the bench.
The bench is made of castmetal plates, which may be of ornamental open or closed work or which may be ornamented in any approved manner. I
The bench is built up of sections, so that it may accommodate one, two,or more persons.
A represents the end plates of the bench, provided with legs a.
B represents the seats or seat-bottoms, each provided with two downwardly-projecting lugs b at their ends and upwardly-projecting lugs 12 at their backs.
0 represents two bolts which pass through holes in the end plates and in the lugs 12 and which clamp the seat or seats between the side plates.
D represents the backs, which are provided with rearwardly-projecting lugs d at their upper parts. 7
E is a bolt which passes through holes in the side plates and in the lugs d and which clamps the back or backs between the side plates. The backs rest upon the seats in front of the lugs 12, and d represents bolts which secure the backs to the said lugs. In this manner the entire bench is held together by three or more bolts and can be made to seat one or more persons, as desired.
F is a front plate, which is secured to the under side of the seats by an angle-bar f and bolts f, so as to give the bench a better appearance.
What I claim is- 1. The combination, with two side plates, of a seat having lugs at its back and ends, a back plate which rests on the said seat, in front of its said back lugs and which has lugs at its upper part, and bolts which pass through the said side plates and lugs and secure the said side plates, seat and back together rigidly and immovably, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with two side plates, of similar and transposable seat-sections arranged side by side and having lugs at their backs and ends, similar and transposable back-sections which rest on the said seat-sections in front of their said back lugs and which have lugs at their upper parts, and bolts which pass through the said side plates and lugs and secure the said side plates, seatsections and back-sections together rigidly and immovably, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
