WINDOW-SHADE DEVICE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,899, dated March 31, 1908.

Application filed April 11, 1902.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that .I, ABRAHAM LINCOLN MOYER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Lancaster, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has reference to devices for manipulating window-shades; and it consists of features fully set forth in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof. V

The object of my invention is to provide a portable and efiective means for manipulating window-shades, one that will not in any way injure the fabric of which the shade is made and that will admit of attachment with the greatest facility and when once attached and thereafter detached the fact of such attachment will not be evident from any injury that the shade will have sustained.

It consists of a clamp adapted to impinge the wooden bar in window-shades. This impinging is accomplished by an integral lug carried by oneor more of the arms of the clamp and held'in rigid contact by a screw orequivalent means Aside from a decided integral projection'I might. use a corrugated surface for the shade -contact side of my clamp. In fact any friction-inducing condition existing between the window-shade and the shade-contact face of the clamp will meet the requirements of my invention.

Fig. lisa modification wherein I use a knob on the end of the screw instead of a ring. Of course I make no claim to novelty for the knob or ring per se. Fig. 5 is a section on line CD of Fig. 4. A is the window-shade. B is the wood bar at the lower portion of this shade and primarily adapted to hold the same in a rigid and taut position. The manner in which this wooden bar is held by the curtain is shown Serial No. 102,440. (No model) i in Figs. 3 and 5 and is well kn0wn=-that is, the curtain encoils the wooden bar and is thread-stitched above the same, as shown at n n. g

O is a screw, Figs. 2 and 3.

E E represent a clamp made from metal and bent, as shown at f. Thus the two lateral arms E E are formed. It is resilient in its nature. At the upper endof the arms are inward-projecting lugs e 2', one carried by each arm. These lugs are adapted to impinge the fabric A and the wood B in the manner shown in Figs. 3 and 5 H is a finger-knob, provided integrally with a screw. By the use ot'ithis construction I can dispense with the ring G. This finger piece II is the hand-engaging member by which I manipulate the blind. I do not limit myself to the specific form of structure set out, but could make some modifications, without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-'-'- 1. In a device for window-shades compris= ing in. combination with the wooden shade stick or brace and fabric encoiling same of a hand-engageablevariable clamping means, consisting of a metallic brace-grip having brace ifnpinging lugs e and a clamping means 0.

2. A device for window-shades in combination with the window-shade stick and the fabric encoiling the same of a variable shadebrace clamp having shade-brace-impinging lugs and a hand-engageable part for actuatingimpingingly said clamp and lugs.

. 3. A device for window-shades comprising in combination with the wooden shade-brace and shade fabric encoiling the same of a variable clamping .means secured to the said brace and having brace-impinging members thereon, hand-controlled means operated below the line of the shade and fabric, as and for the purpose set forth. I

4. A device for window-shades comprising with the wooden shade-brace and the shade fabric encoiling the same of a variable means secured to the said brace and carrying braceimpinging means therefor, hand-controlled ICO means for actuating the said clamp, said hand-controlled means being located below the line of the shade-brace and shade.

5. A portable window-shade manipulator comprising in combination with the wooden shade-brace and shade fabric encoiling the same of a variable shade-clamping means having shade-brace and shade-fabric impinging members, whereby the shade-brace and the shade fabric can be impinged to variable 10 degrees.
