LEMON-SQUEEZVE'R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 722,898, dated March 17, 1903. Application filed January 4. 1902. Serial No. 88,468. (No model.)
To aZZ whowt it may concern.-
Be it known that LMATHIAs REDLINGER, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Freeport, in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invent-ed certain new and useful Improvements in Lemon- Squeezers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is the prod uction of a lemon-squeezer adapted for use where lemons are used in considerable quantities; and it consists of certain new and usei inserted into the socket H.
ful features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is a view of the left-hand end of a lemon-squeezer open embodying myinventiou. Fig. 2 is a section at the dotted line 2 2 in Fig. 1 of the same closed. Fig. 3 is a horizontal partial section at the dotted line 3 3=in Fig. 2 of parts there shown. Fig. 4 is a section enlarged to full size at the dotted line 4 4 in Fig. 2 of parts there shown.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding partsthroughout the several views. A is a circular dish-shaped base provided with a discharge-spout A and having a tubular interiorly-threaded hearing A projecting inward through the bottom thereof.
B is a conoid-shaped closure of the base A, hinged by means of the pivot B and lugs B thereto.
0 is a button mounted on a pivot O on the base A and provided with a downwardly-projecting lip 0 adapted to engage a counterpart projection (3 on the closure B to clamp the latter shut onto such base A while the squeezer is being operated.
D is a hollow multiple-screw-threaded rockshaft, the threaded portion D whereof is a counterpart of and adapted to turn and travel endwise in the tubular threaded bearing in the bottom of the dish-shaped base A of the squeezer.
E is a rotatable follower in conoidal form, having an eXteriorly-threaded nipple E integral with and projecting from the center of the inside thereof.
F is a circular nut adapted to be" turned onto the nipple E.
G G are a-pair of spring-arms rigidly secured by their inner ends to the nut F and terminating at their outer ends in lugs G,
adapted to engage the outer end of the hollow rock-shaft D, and thereby lock the latter into rigid engagement with the rotatable follower E. The spring-arms G G pass through a slot G2 in the bridge-piece G of the rockshatt D to insure their synchronous rotation.
H is an interiorly threaded transverse socket on the outer end of the rock-shaft D.
I is a lever for operating the rock-shaft D,
If the closure B in Fig. 2 be let down to the position shown'in Fig. 1 and half a lemon be placed therein with its cut surface uppermost and the closure be then looked shut, as in Fig. 2, and the lever I be then turned upward, as indicated by dotted lines J the rock-shaft D will have been thereby caused to travel inward and carry with it the rotatable follower E to the position indicated by dotted lines J. Such rotation and forward travel of the follower will have forced the half-lemon against the inside of the closure B, and thereby squeezed the'juice therefrom, whence it will flow out of the spout A into any desired receptacle.
The closure B may be detached from the base A by withdrawing the pivot B from its bearings, and by pressing the outer ends of the spring-arms G inward the rock-shaft D may be disengaged from the follower E, after which it may be turned out of its bearing A and the lever I may be unscrewed therefrom, thus leaving the parts of the squeezer in knockdown for convenience in packing and shipping.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a lemon-squeezer, in combination, a circular dish-shaped base, having a tubular interiorlythreaded bearing, projecting inward through the bottom thereof, a closure hinged thereto, a hollow multiple screwthreaded rock-shaft, adapted to turn and travel endwise in the tubular threaded bearing in the base, and a rotatable follower, in form of a cone, a pair of-spring-arms rigidly secured, by their inner ends, to the bottom of the rotatable follower, and terminating, at their outer ends, in lugs adapted to engage the outer end of the hollow rock-shaft and thereby lock the latter into rigid engagement with such follower, substantially as andfor the purpose specified.
2. In a lemon-squeezer, in combination, a circular dish-shaped base,provided with a discharge-spout and having a tubular interiorlythreaded bearing projecting inward through the bottom thereof, a closure therefor hinged thereto, a hollow screw-threaded rock-shaft, adapted to turn in the threaded bearing in the base, a rotatable follower, having an exteriorly-threaded nipple projecting from the center of the inside thereof, a nut adapted to be turned onto the nipple, a pair of spring-arms rigidly secured, by their inner ends,tothe nut, and terminating, at their outer ends, in lugs, adapted to engage the outer end of the hollow rock-shaft and thereby lock the same into rigid engagement with the rotatable follower, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a lemon-squeezer, in combination, a circulardish-shaped base, provided with a discharge-spout and having a tubular interiorlythreaded bearing projecting inward through the bottom thereof, a closure hinged thereto, means for clamping the closure onto such base, a hollow screwthreaded rock-shaft,
