UNITED STATES JULIUS F. BLOGH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CHAIR ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 722,482, dated March 10, 1 903. Application filed September 4, 1902. Serial No. 122,059. (No model-l To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS F. BLOOH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chair Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in attachments for rocking-chairs, the object being to provide a simple means for producing a current of air by the rocking'motion of the chair and conducting the same to cool a person occupying the chair. 7
I will describe a chair attachmentembodying myinvention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a side elevation of a rockingchair and an attachment embodying my invention thereon, and Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a Arranged underneath the chair are two bellows 34:, which are supported on a platform 5, resting on the fioor. These bellows have pipe connections 6 7 with an auxiliary bellows 8, from which flexible pipes 9 10 lead to air-spraying devices 11 11. The air-spraying devices are adjustably connected to bars 12, which are adjustably connected to side rails of the chair, back by means of clamps 13. The spraying devices 11 11 have clamping-screws 14 for clamping them as adjusted on the bars 12.
The top board of the bellows 3 is connected by means of a link 15 to the chair-bottom at the front, while the bellows 4: is connected by means of a link 16 to the chair-bottom at the rear. By this arrangement it is obvious that when the chair is rocked forward the bellows 3 operates to force air through the pipes and out through the spraying devices, and when the chair is rocking in the opposite direction the air will be forced through the medium of the bellows 4. Therefore the spray of air'willbe practically continuous, and the bellows 8 will equalize the pressure, especially when a weight 8 is placed thereon. By the adjustable'connections of the spraying devices they may be moved to any desired point.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In combination with a rocking-chair, a pair of bellows, an auxiliary bellows having connection with said bellows, air-conducting pipes leading from the auxiliary bellows, airspraying devices having connection with said pipes, means for adj ustably connecting said spraying devices with the back of the chair, a link connection between one of said bellows and the front of the chair, and a link connection between the other of said bellows and the rear of the chair.
2. In combination with a rocking-chair, a pair of oppositely-disposed bellows underneath the chair, a link connection between one of saidbellows and the bottom of the chair at the front, a link connection between the other of said bellows and the bottom of the chair at the rear, an auxiliary bellows having pipe connections with said first-named bellows, bars adj ustably connected to the chair-back, spraying devices adjustable on said bars, and flexible pipe connections be tween said spraying devices and the auxiliary bellows. I
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JULIUS F. BLOOH.
