Be it known that I, PHARES E. GETZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Neosho, in the county of Newton and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Stovepipe-Holder, of which the following is a speciication.

My invention is an improved stovepipeholder adapted for holding a joint of stovepipe in the thimble of a chimney or flue in such manner that the stovepipe cannot work inwardly therein to obstruct the due and decrease the draft nor work outwardly and become detached 'from the thimble, while admitting of the ready removal of the stovepipe from the chimney; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a sectional view of aportion of a stovepipe provided with my improved holder, showing the samein position in the thimble of a chimney. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of my improved stovepipe-holder.

In the embodiment of my invention I provide a pair of metallic strips or sections l 2, which overlap each other, are adapted to slide longitudinally on each other to lengthen or shorten the stovepipe-holder, as may be desirable, and are connected together by a band 3. The ends of the overlapped portions of the said sections l 2 are bent to form springs 4, which in coaction with the connecting-band 3 create friction between the said sections, so`

that the same are maintained in place when adjusted. The inner end of the section 2 is bent outwardly at right angles to form a hook 5, which is adapted to engage the inner end of the thimble and inner side of the Wall of the iiue or chimney, as is shown in Fig. 1.

An outwardly-extending stud or pin 6 of suit-Y able length is secured near the outer .end of the section l, and the outer end of said section l is here shown as bent to' overlap and cover the headof said pin or stud to retain the same in place. This bent and overlapped portion of section l is designated by the numeral 7. The said stud or pin, when the said stovepipe-holder is in use,is placed and adapted to move axially in an opening 8 made in the stoveppe, a portion of one section of the inner end of the thimble.

The stovepipe-holder is vfurther connected to the inner side of the stovepipe by a bolt 10, which engages and passes through openings in the section l of the holder and in the stovepipe, and on the said bolt after the holder has been disposed in the stovepipe is placed a coiled extensile spring l1, which bears against the cuter side of the stovepipe and is retained in position on the bolt bythe nut 12, which also enables the tension of the spring to be varied as may be required to keep the holder in place. By depressing Athe bolt and pin 6 against the tension of the spring the holder may be moved radially toward the center of vthe stovepipe to dispose the hook 5. within the radius of the stovepipe to enable the latter to be inserted in or withdrawn from the thimble. It will be understood that when the stovepipeholder is thus disposed the hook 5 disengages When the thimble is engaged by the said hook 5, as shown in Fig. l, the holder eectually pre vents the pipe from becoming detached from and moving outwardly in the thimble. The bolt l0 acts as a stop to prevent the stovepipe from moving inwardly and obstructing the iiue. Since the holder is extensible longitudinally, the same may be used in connection with a thimble of any length.

The bolt l0 and stud or pin 6 guide the holder and adapt the same to be moved radially toward and from the axis of the stovepipe to dispose the hook 5 either within or 'without the radius of the stovepipe.

Having thus described my invention, I claiml. In combination with a stovepipe, a holder disposed within the same, having a iue-engaging member at its inner end and provided near its opposite end with a plurality of outwardly-projecting guiding and securing elements, disposed radially with reference tothe stovepipe and axially movable in openings therein, and a spring on and connected .to one of said guiding and vsecuring elements and bearing on the outer side of the stovepipe, substantially as described.

2. In combination with a stovepipe, a holder disposed within the same and comprising a pair of sections, one having its outer end out- IOO band connecting the overlapping portions of the sections together, each of said sections being slidable longitudinallyin said band, substantially as described.
