Be it known that I, EDMUND J. SEDLACK. a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the cou nty of Cook and Stateoflllinois,haveinventedcertainnewand useful Improvenn outs in Ad vertisin g Devices, of which the following isa specification.

The main objects of my invention are to provide an improved structure suitable for use as an advertising wagon or car, to provide for readily changing the advertisements and substituting others therefor, and to provide improved means for causing a succession of changes in certain parts of different advertisemen ts. I accomplish these objects by the structure shown in the acooin panying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed according to my invention having some of the translucent walls broken away to reveal the interior structure. Fig. 2 is an end view of one of the revoluble casings, showing its bearing partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a side elevation ofsuch casing and its supporting-shaft, partly in section. Fig. lis a vertical section partly broken awayand taken on the line 4 4. of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a top plan of one of the bearings supporting the revoluble casings, showing in section the rod to which said bearingis attached. Fig. 6 is an elevation of said rod, partly brokenaway, with one of the bearings thereon. The device shown in the drawings consists mainly of a wagon box or compartment sections 2 are held in proper position by means of the strips 10, which are secured by screws 11 to the uprights 8 and cross-pieces 9. The cross-pieces 9 are provided with tenons 12, fitting the uprights 8. The lamps 5 are supported on a frame 13 and provided with reposition within the casing 3.

The revoluble casings 3 are journaled in the bearings 26. Said casings are provided at one end with a shaft 18, carryinga sprocket-wheel 19, and are provided at the other end with ahollowshaft 20. The reliector'2l and lamps 6 are secured within the casing 3 and do not revolve therewith. The lam ps 6 are supplied with current through the conductors 22 and 23. The support 24 is secured at 25 to the bearing 26 and supports an" arm or second hollow shaft in a fixed The shaft 20 is provided with bearings-28 and 29, which steady the shaft 30 within the shaft 20. The reflector 21 and lamps 6 are supported by the arm or shaft 30. The reflector2l is suitably arranged to throw light upon the wall of the casing 3 which is presented toward the adjoining section 2 and to shield the adjoining parts of the casing 3 from such light.

The driving-shaft 31 extends along the middle of the compartment 1 and is connected through the gear 32 and the toothed sector 33 with the shaft 34. The shaft 34: carries a pulley 35, which is connected by means 'of the madeof translucent materiahsuch as ground glass, upon which certain advertising matter is painted, as at 4:1 and 42, and preferably have a blank space, as at 43.

The operation'of the device shown is as follows: One of the revoluble casings 3 may be adjusted on its bearings to a position opposite the blank space 43. The casings 3 will be suitably connected to the driving-shaft 31. When themotor is started, the shaft 34. will be continuously revolved. When the teeth on the sector 33 are in mesh withthe gear '32, a partial revolution willbe imparted to the shaft 31, which will in turn impart a partial revolution to eachof the casings 3. The lamp 6 in each of said casings will reflect the advertising matter from one of its walls upon the blank space 43 on the adjoining translucent section 2. It will thus be seen that I oo through the action of the sector 33 the easing 3 will show one of its walls opposite the blank space 43 for a short period of time and will then be turned sufficiently to show another advertising face toward said blank space. Thus while some of the advertising matter on the sections 2 will remain the same the matter in the blank space 43 will be changed from time to time through the revolution of the casings 3.

It will be understood that numerous details of the device shown may be altered without departing from the spirit of my invention. I therefore do not confine myself to such details, except as hereinafter limited in the claims.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An advertising device comprisinga compartment having walls composed of translucent sections detachably secured together; upright supports secured inwardly of said walls; a horizontal driving-shaft extending along the interior of said compartment; a plurality of revoluble transparent casings, each journaled in bearings vertically adj ustable on said uprights and geared to said driving-shaft; a lamp within each of said casings arranged to have its light reflected through one of said transparent walls and the adjoining translucent section; a second shaft extending parallel with the driving-shaft and carrying a toothed sector in gear with said driving-shaft,w-hereby said casings are turned a part of a revolution during each revolution of said second shaft, and are left without revolving during part of each revolution of said second shaft; and means for revolving said second shaft.

2. In an advertising device, the combination of a revoluble casing having transparent walls; a hollow shaftsecured to one end of said casing, revoluble therewith, extending' around and along the axis of said casing, and having one end opening into said casing; an arm extending through said hollow shaft into said casing; a reflector secured to said arm and arranged to reflecttlight through one side of said casing and to shield the adjoining parts of the casing from such light; an electric lamp secured to said arm within the casing; means for supplying current to said lamp; and means for revolving said shaft.

3. An advertising device comprising a compartment having walls composed of translucent sections detachably secured together, and bearing advertising matter thereon adapted to be seen from the outside of said compartment; a revoluble casin g located inwardly of said walls and having transparent walls bearing advertising matter thereon; a lamp arranged to have its light reflected through one of said transparent walls and the adjoining translucent section in suitable manner to show, on said translucent section, the advertising'matter of said transparent walls; means for revolving said casing; and means for illuminating said translucent sections from within said compartment and independently of the lamp insaid casing.

An advertising device comprising a compartment having walls composed of translu cent sections detachably secured together and having advertising matter thereon; upright supports secured inwardly of said walls; a horizontal driving-shaft extending along the interior of said compartment; a plurality of revoluble transparent casings, each j ournaled in bearings vertically adjustable on said uprights, geared to said driving-shaft, and having advertising matter on their walls; a lamp within each of said casings arranged to have its light reflected through one of said transparentwalls and upon the adjoining translucent section in suitable manner to show the advertising matter of such transparent wall upon the adjoining translucent section; a lamp within said compartment and outward of said casings arranged to throw its light upon said translucent sections; and means for revolving said driving-shaft.
