MAGIC-LANTERN KIOSK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,236, dated November 15, 1892.
Application filed March 17, 1892. Serial No. 425,297- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANZ S. PIERLING, a subject of the King of Bavaria, and a resident of Munich, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Magic-Lantern Kiosks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to magic-lantern kiosks, and has for its object a simple and to efficient construction whereby attractive advertisements and views may be automatically displayed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional elevation of an advertising-stand embodying my improvements. Figs. 2 and 3 are horizontal sections taken on the lines A B and C D, respectively. .Figs. 4., 4, and 5 are detail views.
The structure comprises a suitable base and top a and intermediate framework 1), supporting the translucent glass panels a, the latter being divided into upper and lower sections by means of an annular horizontal band (1. A vertical shaft e is centrally mounted on pivot-bearings within the stand and is provided with upper and lower apparatus h for projecting stereopticon viewsv on the translucent panels 0. The slides of the stereopticon o apparatus h are designated by the referenceletter i. A frame g is located in the base of the apparatus, Figs. 1 and 3, and is so disposed that the radial parts carry a series of partitions k, which are movable therein and not only serve to separate the difierent panels, but enable the partitions to be slid out from the frame, so that they may be folded back against the panels when not in use. To provide for this latter operation, the inner end of each panel carries a horizontal device consisting of a hinge proper and lug Z, so that said panel, with its hinge, may be moved beyond the apparatus proper and the lugs will retain the same position, but enable the partition to be folded against the panels, as aforesaid. A shell forming the top rests on the plate a and contains the actuating apparatus. This latter consists of suitably-driven mechanism, that shown being represented as driven by weights and contained within acase m. It
is designed to have this mechanism intermit tently operating a pawl n to engage and release a notched wheel on the shaft c. This mechanism may also operate a clock a, located at the top of the advertising-stand and provided with two dials. The top casing is preferably provided with a series of apertures r, guarded by panels .9 of glass, smaller openings t being located below. It will be noted that the connection for operating the clock is established through the gear-wheel 10 and pinion mounted on the shaft g.
It will be understood that the lighting medium may be either an incandescent lamp, gas, or other light-supplying medium. That shown is an incandescent light. In operation the rotation of the shaft e will successively project different views upon the upper and lower series of panels 0, and thus present an interesting and attractive advertising medium. Suitable light apparatus may be located in the upper part of the device and reflect light through the apertures s 15, upon the panels of which suitable printed matter may be placed.
Having now particularly described and. ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination, in an advertising apparatus, the stereopticon, means for revolving the same, and a stand entirely inclosing the said stereopticon, said stand having a series of panels upon which the views are to be projected, the said panels extending around the said stereopticon in a plane outside the path of the stereopticon, substantially as described.
2. In combination, in an advertising appao ratus, the stand having a series of panels around it, partitions extending from the meeting ends of the panels toward the center of the stand to divide the same into a series of radial compartments, a stereopticon appara- 5 tus within the stand, and the means for operating the same, substantially as described.
3. In combination, the stand, the series of radial partitions therein, the panels around the stand at the outer ends of the partitions, roe
said partitions and panels forming a series of compartments, and a stereopticon apparatus arranged centrally of the stand and having a lens for each compartment, substantially as described.
4:. In combination, the stand, the stereopticon therein, the series of radial partitions, and the panels around the stand and between the outer ends of the partitions, said partitions being removable, substantially as described.
5. In combination, the stand, the series of panels, the series of radial partitions, each of said partitions being arranged to slide outward and having a hinge and a lag at its inner end, whereby it may be folded against the side of the stand when drawn out, and
the stereopticon within the stand, substantially as described.
