To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN SOHWECHLER, a citizen of the United States, residing inthe city and county of Philadelphia, State of 5 Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Manufacturing Soap, ofwhich the following is a speci- Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the former employed in detached position. Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a 30 machine for manufacturing soap, the' same consisting of a casing 2, having the discharge or outlet passage 3, which latter is provided with the threaded nozzle 4, against which the former 5 is held by any suitable means, said 3 5 former consisting of a disk or plate 6, having an opening 7 therethroughwhich is provided with the beveled curved wall or throat 8, which has a flat or rectilinear side 9.

15 designates the soap in a soft or plastic condition, the same being propelled by the screw or pusher 16 toward the discharge-outlet 7 but it will be apparent that other means for propelling or forcing the soap from the machine may be employed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The former 5 is held in position by any suitable means; but in practice I employ the flange 17 of the nut 18, whichflatter is internally threaded, so as to engage the threaded portion of the nozzle 4, the relative position of the parts when in assembled position being understood from Figs. 1 and 2.
The operation is as follows: The soap 15 in a soft or plastic condition is forced through the throat or outlet 8 by any suitable feeding device, and by reason of the longitudinally extending arm 12 the. soap will leave the machine in the form of a finished bar having the longitudinally-extending opening 13 therethrough, as will be apparent from Fig. 2. In practice it is also essential that the soap-cake 14; be provided with a flattened side or wall 18, which latter is produced by means of the rectilinear beveled edge 9, as will be apparent to those skilled in this art. The finished cake of soap 14: (seen in Fig. 4) is especially applicable to a soap-supplier or soap-cutter which I have invented and for which I have filed a coutemporaneously-pending application, the function of the flattened side 19 of the soap-cake 14 being to prevent the latter from turning during the action of the cutters on an end thereof, while the longitudinallyextending opening 13 through the cake enables every portion thereof to be used without waste, which I have found cannot be effected where a solid cake of soap is used.
It will be apparent that my improved apparatus can be. adapted to other plastic materials and can be carried out by different machines from that shown and that various changes can be made by those skilled in the art which will come within the scope of my invention, and I do not, therefore, desire in every instance to be restricted to the exact construction of apparatus which I have herein shown and described Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In an apparatus for manufacturing soap provided with a discharge-nozzle, a former consisting of a plate formed with an opening having a beveled Wall and fitted against the discharge-nozzle,a core member supported by 5 the plate and deflected into line with the opening, and means for securing said plate to the end of the discharge-nozzle, substantially as I described.
