GARDNER LADD PLUMLEY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FISH-N ET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 719,862,dated February 3, 1903.
Application filed May 2, 1902.
landing-nets, which may be carried in the pocket or in a satchel; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a fish-net constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed inthe following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in both views, and in which-- Figure 1 is a plan view, partly in section, showing my improved net folded together; and Fig. 2, a plan view showing the net or the parts thereof in position for use.
In the practice of my invention 1 provide a net comprising a frame portion a and a body or net portion 17, composed of an open network of any material made flexible, so that the body of the net and the frame thereof maybe folded together.
The frame a is composed of two side members 0, which are pivotally connected at a and opposite the pivotal connection a of the side members a the ends of the side mem-.
here are connected by two link members at, and said link members are pivotally connected at a and also pivotally connected with the side members a at a. The side members a are composed of spring metal, and at their pivotal connection at a they are each provided with an outwardly-directed shank a and said side members at their pivotal connection are each provided with two reinforcing-strips b and b of the same material, and these reinforcing-strips are also projected and form part of the shanks a and by means of this construction the side members a are made much stronger at their pivotally-connected ends than at their central portion or Serial No. 105,579. (No model.)
opposite ends. The link members a may be made of any desired material, but preferably made of the same material as the side members a I I also provide a handle which consists of two separate parts 0 and c and these handle members 0 and c are hinged to the side members a of the main frame at c at the inner faces thereof and at their pivotally-connected ends, and said pivotally-connected ends are provided with grooves 0 designed to receive the shanks a of the side members 0. when .the separate parts of the handle are folded together, as shown in Fig. 2, and one of said handle members is provided with a pivoted link d, by means of which the handle members may be locked together when the device is in use, and by releasing said handle device or link d the said handle members 0 and a will be automatically thrown apart by the shanks 0, of the spring side members a of the frame of the net. The link members a may then be folded inwardly and the entire device may be folded in the position shown in Fig. 1. When the handle members are folded together, as shown in Fig. 2, they operate on the shanks a to force the side members a of the main frame outwardly in the position shown in Fig. 2, and the net is then in condition for use.
It will be evident that this net may be made of any desired size, and a handle composed of but one piece may be employed, in which event the shanks 0,7 would be compressed together by pulling outwardly on the side members a of the frame, and said shanks could then be inserted into a socket in the end of the handle and secured therein in any desired manner.
The body portion 1) or the net proper may be secured to the frame in the usual or any desired manner, and said net may also be made of any desired material.
Having fullydescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Aframe for'fish-nets composedof spring side members pivotally connected at one end and provided at said end with rigid and laterally-directed shanks, the opposite ends of said members being connected by link members connected therewith and with each other,
and a handle composed of two parts hinged to the side members adjacent to their pivotal connection and adapted to operate in connection With said shanks, substantially as shown and described.
2. A fish-net composed of a frame and not proper secured thereto, the frame being composed of spring side members pivotally connected at one end and provided with laterally-directed shanks, the opposite ends of said side members being connected by link members connected therewith, and with each other, and a handle composed of two parts hinged to the side members adjacent to their pivotal connection and provided with grooves adapted to receive said shanks, substantially as shown and described.
A frame for fish-nets, composed of spring side members pivotally connected at one end and provided at said end with rigid and laterally-directed shanks, the opposite ends of said members being provided with a flexible connection, and a handle composed of two parts, said parts being hinged to the side members adjacent to their pivotal connection and adapted to operate in connection with said shanks, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 1st day of May, 1902.
