SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,252, dated January 27, 1903.

To ctZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES M. OKELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the borough of Manhattan and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists of a clip adapted to be applied over the burner at a point just under the burner-tip and provided with a neck portion having a broad spreading lip extending outwardly in a plane in line with the axis of the clip, said clip and neck (which latter is semicylindrical) being provided with longitudinal grooves or channels extending along the inner Wall, all as will be hereinafter more particularly described and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my attachment for gasburners. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same applied to a gas-burner. Fig. 4: is a front elevation of the same applied to a gas-burner, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged transverse section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, A indicates a sheet-metal spring-clip the outturned edges or ears to of which are perforated for the passage of a clamping screw and nut B. The back of the clip is extended or continued in the form of a semicylindrical neck 0, the upper end of which is formed into a half-hood O, which is terminated by a broad spreading lip D, that is arranged in a plane in line with the axis of the clip and extends at both sides laterally of the neck. The inner walls of the back of the clip and the neck 0 are formed with longitudinal grooves or channels 6, which extend up to the half-hood C. The clip, neck, and spreading lip are all stamped out of one piece ofmetal simultaneously withthe grooves or channels, and the ends or cars a are then bent around so as to form the clip.
The position of the attachment on the burner is shown clearly in Figs. 3 and 4,
where it will be seen that the channels or passages e extend along the burner and communicate with the space within the half-hood O, which is located just above the burner-tip F, while the plane of the spreading lipD is substantially in line'with the plane of the slit.
In placing the attachment in position on the burner the fastening device B is loosened, the clip slipped over the burner, and the fastening device tightened, so as to apply the clip firmly to the burner. When in use, air passes up through the channels or passages 8 into the space within the half-hood just above the burner-tip, where the said air mixes with the gas and causes a more perfect combustion by the mingling of the oxygen of the air with the carbon particles, and hence a more perfect and brighter flame. The air in passing up the channels a is preheated or warmed, so as to facilitate more perfect combustion. The flame spreads out, as usual, along one side of the spreading lip in a manner similar to attachments of this class.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An attachment for gas-burners, the same consisting of a metallic clip adapted to be applied to the gas-burner, a neck extending upwardly from the back of the clip, said back and neck being provided with longitudinal grooves or channels, a hood located at the upper end of the neck, said grooves terminating in the hood, and a spreading lip extending around the edge of the hood in the vertical plane of the said edge, substantially as set forth.
