To all whorrt it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, ELI T. ZIMMERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in folding camp chairs or stools; and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a chair of this class which will fold up into a very small space, so that it can be conveyed with verylittleinconvenience,and,second,to make it light, durable, and efficient and of little cost to manufacture. These objects I accomplish by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved chair or stool. Fig. 2 is an end view showing how the legs are attached to the seat, with the back removed. Fig. 3 is an end view of chair when folded up.
Similar letters of reference indicate the parts throughout the views.
In the accompanying drawings, A indicates the seat. The legs B are hinged at their upper ends and front of the same to the under side of the rear edge of the seat. The legs 0 C are pivoted to the inner side of the legs B at D by the bolts E and E. The upper ends of the legs 0 when open and ready for use are forced within the recesses F, cut in the under side of the seat A and near the front edge of the same. The legs 0 near their lower ends are connected together by the rail G. To the legs B are pivoted at T the lower ends of the strips H and H, which are connected by the cross-piece or back-support I, and the seat A is formed with the extensions A, which forms shoulders or rests A for the strips II and H when the back is in use, as shown in Fig. 1.
When desired to fold the chair, the back is pulled forward, which allows the seat to pass through the same, the upper ends of the legs 0 are released from the notch F, the legs B moved upward, but held to the seat by the hinges K, the upper ends of the legs C drawn downward to aline with the upper edge of the legs B, and folded in position shown in Fig. 3. The construction of the chair will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The folding chair herein described, consisting of the seat having the extensions on the rear forming rests and having the notches on the under face at the front, the pair of legs hinged to the under face of the seat at the rear, the strips carrying the back-support pivoted to the said legs near their upper hinged end, and the pair of legs pivoted about centrally to said hinged legs and having their upper ends engaging the notches in the forward under face of the seat when the chair is set up.
