UNTTrn STaTns PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS H. MURRAY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TOY OR TRICK DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,126, dated January 27, 1903.
Application filed December 1, 1902.
To all who/2t it may concern;
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. IHURRAY, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago. Cook county, Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Toy or Trick Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention contemplates a device more in the nature of a toy or trick device; and it consists of the picture or representation of the hack of a mans head, provided on its reverse side with a mirror. Preferably the obverse side is also provided with an indicating device adapted to convey the impression that the reverse side is provided with a picture or representation of some sortas, for example, the face of the man whose head is shown on the obverse side. Now when the device with its obverse side in view is handed to a person the latter, following the suggestion of theindicating device, turns the trick device over with the expectation of finding on the reverse side a picture of the face of the man the back of whose head is shown on the obverse side or some other picture or representation. The nature of my invention will, however, hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows the obverse side of one form of my invention. Fig. 2 shows the reverse side of said form of my invention. Fig. 3 shows the obverse side of another form of my invention. 1
Fig. a shows the obverse side of still another form of my invention.
As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, my improved toy or trick device may be substantially disklike in form and can have its obverse side provided with a picture or representation 1 of the back of a mans head. This side of the disk may also be provided with an indicating device, such as the words 2, tending to convey the impression that the reverse side of the disk is provided with a picture of the mans face. As a matter of fact, however, the reverse side of this disk is provided with a mirror 3. Thus, as explained, when the toy or trick device, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is presented with the obverse side in full view the person examining the toy or trick device will first observe the picture of the back of the Serial No. 1.833%?- (No model.)
mans head and then noting the indicating device will proceed to turn the disk over with the expectation of finding the mans face on the back or reverse side.
If desired, the toy or trick device may be trimmed down to the exact form or outline of the mans head, as shown in Fig. In this case the indicating device 4 may be employed as a substitute for that shown in Fig. 1. Again, the toy or device as a whole may have the outline or shape shown in Fig. 4. If desired, the indicating device may be omitted, as in Fig. 4:.
W'hatever is the form of the toy or device as a whole the essential feature consists of an obverse side provided with the picture of the back of a persons head and a reverse side provided with a mirror. The picture or representation of the back of the mans head may be printed, painted in colors, or may be embossed or raised on the surface of the obverse side of the toy, as may be found preferable or desirable.
Broadly stated, my invention consists of a picture or representation of the back of a mans head having a reverse side provided with a mirror.
WVhat I claim as my invention is 1. A toy or trick device, consisting of a picture or representation of the back of a persons head having the reverse side provided with a mirror, said picture or representation being of a character to prompt the person inspecting it to turn the device over with the expectation of finding the said persons face on the reverse side.
2. A toy or trick device, consisting of a disk having its obverse side provided with a picture or representation of the back of a mans head, and having its reverse side provided with a mirror, the obverse side being also provided with an indicating device inviting an examination of the reverse side.
Signed by me at Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, this 25th day of November, 1902.
THOMAS H. MURRAY.
