Letters Patent No. 71,835, dated December 3, 1867.
IMPROVED HARNESS-TRACE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, THOMAS S. JUDSON, of Mattcawan, in the county of Dutchess, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traces; and do hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. v
In the annexed drawings, making part ofthis specification, A represents a trace or tug of a set of harness,
which is made as follows: I use first a piece of wire, a, of suitable size and length, which I cover with strong" canvas, d; and this canvas is then covered with a coating, e, of India rubber. A suitable slot is formed at one. end to receive the end of the \rhiille-tree; and suitable levers are formed at the other end to receive the tongue of the buckle which connects it to the breast-collar or hames.
The combination of these materials forms a very strong and durable tug. The wire and cloth, being protected from moisture by the rubber coating, are not liable to rust and mildew, and consequently very little to wear:
I am aware that the application of wire in harness is not new.
What I claim as anew article of manufacture, is-
In combination with a wire interior, the application of cloth and India-rubber coatings for forming a trace, when arranged in the manner and for the purposes set forth. I
