@Ihre tlgehnle ttferter tu in tlgrsc lettett rtmt nnb mnh-ing putt nf the same.
V'IO ALL- WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, FREDERICK G. SAneEnT and NORMAN H. BRUCE, of Graniteville, in the county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tags; and we dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same. i l
The present invention relates to that class of tags or label-cards that have their fastening-string or cord hung to a metal cross-wire o'r strip laid betweenv the Vlayers of the folded-over end to the card-paper; and the invention consists in so preparing such surfaces of the said metal wire as are in contact with and held bythe folded-over paper with a coating or covering of paint or -brous or other material suitable to allowthe said wire und card-paper to become {irinly united and 'joined together with the use of glue or gluten, or other proper adhesive material, and also to enable the string around such wire or metal to be similarly fastened thereto. In the accompanying plate of drawings our improvement in tags is illustrated- Figure 1 being a face view of the same, with the-metal band `and. string applied, but previously to being folded over thereon.
Figure'2, a view of the tag completed.
Figure 3, a sectional view in the plane ofthe line x x, fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
` A, in the drawings, represents the paper or card of the tag; B, its string or cord, which is doubled around a metallic wire orhand, C, covered, in the present instance, with cloth or a. brous material, a, and passed, by its loo'sc curls, D, out through the hole E, made in the tag-paper A at the centre-point of the line F, where the end G of the tag is folded over and upon the main portion H, and is secured by the application of glue, gluten, or other suitable adhesive material. The fibrous covering to the 'metal causes a perfect union between the wire and paper-cord.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letter'sPatent- The application to the cross metal wire or band C, or its equivalent, of a coating ofl suitable material for uniting such band with the card-paper of-a tag, substantially as described.
The above specification of our invention signed by us, this day of July, 1867.
FREDERICK G. SARGENT, NORMAN H. BRUCE.
