certain new and useful Improvements in Gar-- ment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to garment-fasten ers; and its object is to provide a device that when attached to a corset will keep the belt and garments in place at the waist and will also reinforce the corset-steel.

In the drawings, Figure l represents the blank from which the fastener is formed. Fig. 2 is an end view of the fastener. Fig. 3 is a side View. Fig. 4 is a front elevation, and Fig. 5 shows the fastener in place upon a corset.

The fastener is represented as formed from a blank which may be stamped from asingle sheetof metal. The arms c d. are benton the lines indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. l until they lie opposite the arms 0.2 and a3, respectively, and the part d4 is bent on the dotted lines into the form of adownwardlydirected hook, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The arms a, a', a2, and d3 are each perforated, as represented in the drawings, so that the perforations in the arms a anda. come opposite to those in the 'arms a2 and a3, respectively, when the former arms are bent into position above those last mentioned, respectively.

When the fastener is slipped upon the edge of the corset, as shown in Fig. 5, the corsetsteel B at the edge of the corset is clasped by the pairs of arms a d2 and ct d3 and the fastener is held firmly thereby. The fastener may also be secured to the corset by sewing it thereto through the perforations or around the ends of the arms. When in position upon the corset, the main portion a0 of the fastener lies against the corset-steel B on the inside of the corset, as shownby dotted lines in Fig. 5. The arms d2 c3 are also on the inside of the corset, and'only the arms ct a. and the hook a4 are exposed to view. The hook a4 is offset .sidewise with reference to the shank A in order tolbring the hook in the center of the front of the figure, 'while the fastener-arms fit on the edge of the corset- Steel. When the fastener is in place upon the corset, the hook a4 is in position to keep in place the belt, Waist, and skirts of the wearer, so 'that pins and other fastening devices may be dispensed with. The fastener is rigidly attached to the corset and cannot move sidewiseand cause lateral displacement of the garments held by it.

An important feature of the device is found in the fact that thehook a4 lies at the center of the figure, which insures that the garments with which it engages Will hang straight. The portion 0.0 of the fastener, lying, as it does, against and along the steel B, affords a reinforcement for said steel and at the point whereitis mostneeded,for the fastenerwhen it is in proper position for the hook to engage the garment that it is to keep in place is brought opposite to that part of the steel that is subjected to the greatest strain. This reinforcement of the corset-steel at the Waist is an important feature of my invention. vThe device, however, may be placed at any position along the front corset-steel as `the wearer may desire andas indicated in Fig. 5.

What I claim is- 1. A blank for a garment-fastener stamped from a single piece of metal, consisting of a shank adapted to reinforce the corset-steel upon its inner side; oppositely-placed arms on either side of said shank, and a piece upon one of said parts adapted to-`be formed into a downwardly-directed hook; substantially as described.

2. A blank for a garment-fastener stamped from a single piece of metal, consisting of the shank a0, the pairs of arms d, a2 and a', a3 for securing the fastener to the corset; and the piece a4 on the arm d', adapted to be formed into a downwardly-directed hook; substantially as described.

3. A garmen t-fastener formed from a blank stamped from a single piece of metal and co1nprising the shank a0 adapted to lie against the corset-steel on the inside of the corset, the pairs of arms a, 0.2, and d', d3, for securing the fastener to the corset, and the sidewiseoffset and downwardly-directed hook @ton one of said arms, substantially as described.
