Be it known that I, FRANK FULLER, ofthe city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful inprovements in the Mode of Constructing loy Guns or Pistols; and I hereby declare that the following is a'full and exaetdescription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to thc letters ot`Y reference marked thereon. l
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a toy gun or pistol with a barrel and a diagonal spring-chamber, the barrel being used for the projectile and for the hammer or rod which discharges-it, the diagonal spring-chamber being employed to receive and conceal the India-rubber strip or band, which, being attached to and concealed within the head or back end of the hammer or discharging-rod, actuates it, and produces the discharge of the projectile.
It consists, further, in the means of cocking the piece and detaining it ready for discharge, and also oi' the means of discharging it; the object of the invention being the production of a toy gun or pistol which shall be efficient in its action, durable in its qualities, symmetrical and attractive in appearance, simple and iuexpenf sive infccnstruetion, while at the same time involving the operations of cocking and discharging common to most varieties ofthe-arms in use by children of a larger growth.

Backward pressure by the application of the finger upon the upper part of this loop or encircling-plate J, withdraws the discharging-rod until its head falls into the detaining-noteh e,'. and backward pressure upon the lower part ol` said loop elevates and releases the discharging-rod, and discharges the weapon.
In fig. 9 the dotted lines z' are intended to represent external India-rubber bands, which may be applied over the hammer-head or bach-.end of the discharging-rod b, and extended to some point of attachment upon the stock or barrel, as shown at a, thereby affording a ready means of increasing the efficiency ofthe weapon, as well as of instantly repairing itin case the concealed elastic strip or band should become injured.
I do not claim the use-of an elastic India-rubber spring as a means et' actuating the discharging-rod of a toy gun or pistol, as this is in common use; neither do I claim the employment of a discharging-rod working in the barrel of such a toy for the purpose of discharging the projectiles; nor do I claim a spring-chamber opening into or communicating with the interior of the barrel of the weapon.
But what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentoi the United States, is-l The combination of the discharging-rod C, constructed with a grooved head, Z), the spring D operating in the spring-chamber a', substantially ns set forth. The wedge-shaped trigger E, arranged to elevate and release the discharging-rod C and the shoulder c', with the stopg and depressing-spring It, all constructed substantially as set forth and described.
