UNITED STATES PATENT FFI (1E,
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 717,295, dated December 30, 1902.
Application filed May 21, 1902. Serial No. 108,346. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. SOULEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Winchester, in the county of Middlesex and State 5 of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toys; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing the figure is a perspective view of the toy.
A is a base-plate, and 12 represents three rods which project upwardly from the baseplate and support a disk B.
C is a vertical shaft which is journaled in the base A and in the disk B.
D is a disk which is mounted on the upper end portion of the shaft 0 and which rests on the disk B.
E represents brackets secured to the disk D. A shaft e is journaled horizontally in the brackets E, and F is a wind-wheel secured on one end of the shaft e. A steering-vane f is secured at the other end of the shaft 6 to the 0 bracket which supports that end of the said shaft.
D is a thrust-plate secured to the disk D behind the wind-wheel and overlapping the disk B, so as to relieve the shaft 0 of excessive pressure.
G is the figure of a man secured to the base A and provided with jointed arms g. H is a saw attached to the hands of the said figure. A support and guide hfor the saw is provided, and the guide is formed to represent a portion of a log of wood with a notch in it for the, blade of the saw to slide in.
7', secured to the base A.
K K aretoothed wheels which connect the shaft 6 with the shaftG, and k k are toothed wheels which connect the shaft 0 with the shaft J. A crank-plate m is secured on one end of the shaft J, and n is a connecting-rod pivoted to the crank-plate and to the front end of the saw.
When the wind-wheel is revolved, the toy figure is set in motion in an interesting manner, and the wind-wheel is turned around to face the wind by the steering-vane, so that 5 5 the toy figure always works in the same direction.
What I claim is In a toy, the combination, with a base-plate, converging rods projecting upwardly from the base-plate, and a disk B secured to the upper ends of the said rods; of a vertical Ishaft C journaled in the said base-plate and disk, a disk D pivoted on the said shaft and resting on the disk B, brackets secured to the disk D, a horizontal shaft 6 journaled in the said brackets, a wind-wheel secured on the shaft 6, toothed wheels connecting the shafts e and (3, a toy figure supported from the baseplate and provided with articulated arms, a 7c toy saw connected to the said arms, a block for guiding the blade of the said saw, a horizontal shaft J supported from the base-plate, toothed wheels connecting the shafts J and C, a crank-plate secured on the shaft J, and a connecting-rod between the said crank-plate and saw, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM 'r. SOULEE.
