DIS PLAY-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 717,157, dated December 30, 1902.
Application tiled September 30, 1901. Serial No, 77,104. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALKER H. BLANDIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sedalia, in the county of Pettis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Display-Rack, of which the following is a specication. Y
This invention relatesto display-racks particularly designed for use asa means for draping dress goods and the like in such manner that they will be displayed to the best advantage and also in unique and artistic forms and the object of the present improvement is to provide simple and effective means for producing a variety of different designs by the use of two or more attached frames of a particular forni and construction, the frames being capable of inversion and grouping in series at angles to each other, and thus afford means for obtaining an indefinite number of display contours.
The invention consists in an improvement on the construction disclosed in Patent No. 679,210, granted to me July 23, 1901, and which will be more fullyhereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of the improved rack in one arrangement with goods applied thereto and draped thereover. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the rack shown by Fig. l with the draping or goods removed. Fig. 3 is a similar view of a modified arrangement of the rack. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a still further modified form of the rack shown draped. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the form of rack shown draped in Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of a supporting attachment adapted to be applied as an auxiliary to either of the racks.
Similar numerals of reference are employed ing either in single or plural combination as supports'for the several frames. -As before set forth, all of the frames are similar in construction, aud the modification in the rack consists in disposing the frames in different positions to produce variations in the design or mode of arranging the goods or cloth draped thereover.
In the form of the device shown by Fig. 2 and shown inclosed by Fig. l one of the frames is regularly disposed on a base-rest and has a single slotted bar 8 arranged horizontally in relation to the upright 3 and projected equally from opposite sides of the latter. To the outer ends of the bar 8 the uprights 3 of inverted frames are secured so as to bring the triangular bases thereof uppermost and iu the same horizontal plane, and centrally disposed on the said pair of inverted bases is a fourth frame, which is regularly disposed. These frames may be tied together by any suitable means-such as wire, cord, or the like--and in arranging the draping thereon the lower frame supporting the series above has the goods or cloth applied thereto, as shown by Fig. 1, and the three upper frames are similarly draped and produce the appeal'- ance of one regularly-disposed conical form at the top, two inverted depending conical forms at opposite sides, and a lower regularlyarranged conical form.
In the form of the device shown by Fig. 3 a frame is regularly arranged at the bottom, and to the upper extremity of the upright thereof is secured the free end of an inverted frame which is disposed in direct alinement with the lowermost frame, and attached to the connected uprights of the two alined frames are the free ends of two horizontally-disposed frames, with their bases projected outwardly. The vertically and also the laterally disposed frames are secured in adjusted position by the clamping-bolts, as 7', and the angle of these frames maybe varied by loosening these IOO bolts, then adjusting the frames to the desired position, and again clamping the bolts to hold them in place. On top of the uppermost vinverted frame a fifth similar frame is disposed, and when the goods is draped over this arrangement of framesit assumes the contour shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3.
The configuration shown by Fig. 4 is produced by the arrangement of frames shown by Fig. 5. One of the slotted bars Sis adjustably secured against the base of the top frame, and said bar is also adjustably attached to the bar 8,' connected to the lower frame by means of a clamping-bolt 7.
The upper frame (shown in Fig. 5) has its base arranged vertically, and in addition to the structure of the frames as heretofore set forth this upper frame, as shown by Fig. 5, is provided with a bar 10, similar in construction to the bars 8, and is adjustably secured to the upright 3 and projects toward the front. At different points and wherever the same can be used the exposed ends of the upright 3 will have head-blocks 11 removably applied thereto, and the arm lO will also be likewise supplied with one of these blocks, to thereby provide a head-support for the goods draped thereover and produce a more graceful appearance. The head-block 1l (shown in Fig. 5) is also adapted to have an auxiliary supporting device connected thereto and which is shown by Fig. 6. This auxiliary supporting device consists of a triangular board 12, provided with a screw-eye 13 to enter the opening 14 in the head-block 11. (Shown by Fig. 5.) This Will give a greater headsupport for the draping and provide further means for varying the design, and while this auxiliary support is described as being applicable to the form of the device shown by Fig. 5 and indicated in the latter by dotted lines it will be understood thatit can be equally Well applied to the other head-blocks'or a number of similar triangular boards used Where there are a number of exposed ends and head-blocks.
Three different forms of the rack made up of the frames are set forth but it will be understood that other configurations and shapes can be produced by further changes, and such changes will'be adopted at will as may be desired to vary the designs. The essential feature of the invention, therefore, is the utilization of two or more frames of triangular form adjustably and detachably connected or assembled, and to further vary the design it will be understood that the braces can be adjusted to change the angle of the triangular backs and uprights. Numerous other variations will suggest themselves 'from timeto time, and several of the shapes or arrangements ot' frames can also be combined to produce a compound configuration or to form an arch-like design.
The racks are adapted to be placed either in show-Windows, displaycompartments,or in open store-rooms, and for different purposes and use with various classes of goods the size, proportions, and minor details may be changed without departing from the principle of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A display-rack comprising a plurality of triangular frames adjustable to different positions with relation to each other, uprights connected therewith, head-blocks adapted to be secured to the terminals of the uprights, and means attachable to the head-blocks to increase their supporting extent.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WALKER H. BLANDIN.
