Description

No. 716,588. Patented Dac. 23, I902.
W. J. SMITH.
NURSING BOTTLE HOLDER.
(Application filed May a, 1902.)
(No Model.)
WILLIAM J. SMITH, OF EAST ST. LOUIS, ILLINOIS.
NURSING-BOTTLE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 716,588, dated December 23, 1902.
Application filed May 5,1902. Serial No. 106,091- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, \VILLIAM J. SMITH,of the city of East St. Louis, St. Clair county, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursing-Bottle Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My object is to construct an improved nursing-bottle support; and my invention consists of a base, a front post extending upwardly from the base,a bearing upon the front post to receive the neck of the bottle, a rear post extending upwardly from the base higher than the front post, a bearing upon the rear post to receive the body of the bottle, and a spring-clamp to hold the bottle in position in said bearings.
Figure 1 is a perspective of my improved nursing-bottle support with the bottle in position and ready for use. Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the bottle removed. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation. Fig. 4 is a perspective of a modified form.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the preferred construction (shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3) consists of a wire having its central portion bent to form the loop 5 to receive the neck of the bottle and twisted to form the post 6, extending downwardly from the loop 5, one end of the wire extending laterally to form one side 7 of the base and the other wire extending laterally to form the other side 8 of the base, said wires being brought together at the rear of the base and twisted to form the rear post 9 and again separated to form the loop 10 to receive the body of the bottle, said wires being connected at the upper part of the loop 10 by the hooks 11 and one end of the wire extending from' the hooks 11 to the loop 5 to form the brace 12. The springthe arms 14 and 15, extending downwardly to engage the bottle. The loop 10 provides a yielding support for the clamp, so that when the handle 13 is elevated the arms 15 will pass under the wires of the loop 10 and assume the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and release the bottle. The bottle is inserted into position through the loop 10, and the neck is extended through the loop 5. Then the handle 13 of the clamp is engaged and swung backwardly until the points of the arms 14 and 15 engage the bottle on its top side, and the handle 13 extends downwardly behind the bottle to prevent its being withdrawn from the bearings. The loop 5 forms the front bearing and the loop 10 the rear hearing, said rear bearing being higher than the front bearing, so as to hold the' body of the bottle higher than the nipple.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4 a sheetmetal plate is bent to form the base 16, the front post 17 extending upwardly from the forward end of the base and having a bearing 18 near its upper end, the rearpost 19 extending upwardly from the rear end of the base and having a notch 20 in its upper end, the pivot-bar 21 connected to the upper end of the post 19 and extending across the notch 20, and-the spring-clamp mounted upon the pivot-bar 21, said spring-clamp comprising the handle 13, the arms 14 and 15, and the bearings 13 and 13 I claim- Anursing-bottle support comprisingabase; a front post extending upwardly from the base; a bearing upon the front post to receive the neck of the bottle; a rear post extending upwardly from the base higher than the front post; a bearing upon the rear post to receive the body of the bottle; and a spring-clamp to hold the bottle in position in said bearings; substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM J. SMITH.
