PATENT OF HAYANA, CUBA.
CIGARETTE-CARTRIDGE AND BLANK FOR MAKING SAME.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 716,339, dated December 16, 1902.
Original application filed June '7, 1901, Serial No. 63,666. Divided and this application filed April 9, 1902. Serial and useful Improvement in Cigarette-Oar tridges and Blanks for Makingthe'Same, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to tobaccosmoking devices; and particularly it has for its object to provide Whatl call a cigarettecartridge. By this I mean a cigarette comprising a filler of tobacco, having a wrapper or casing of stiff non-combustible material tapering inwardly preferably from the ignition end or from a point adjacent thereto.
A further object is to provide in such a device means for feeding the tobacco filler through the casing.
I shall now describe my invention, so that others skilled in the art may manufacture and, use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my Fig. 2 represents a blank sheet of material from which the casing of the cartridge is made.
Referring to the drawings, the blank of comparatively stiff non-combustible material 0 from which the casing of the cartridge is made is designated by the reference-numeral 1. This blank is to be rolled in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2 and when completed hasthe form shown in Fig. Referring to the blank 1, the portion 2 when rolled up constitutes the draft-tube and guide-stem 2 for the spring 6, which moves the tobacco-filler forward in the casing. The portion 3 constitutes the springseat 3, (shown in Fig. 1,) and the portion 4 constitutes the body proper, 4, of the casing, while the portion 5 of the blank constitutes the conical tapered end portion 5. The portion 2 may be made of the same width as the portion 3, in which eventno protruding guidesteam 2'" willbe formed in the cartridge.
The tobacco filler is indicated by the numeral 7. 1
The manner of use of my improved car- (No model.)
tridge will be apparent. As the tobacco is consumed in the act of smoking fresh tobacco will be fed forward by the spring 6, the contracted end 6 of the cartridge acting to retard the free forward feeding of the tobacco through the end and permitting suflicient only to be fed to take the placeof that consumed.
By making the body of the casing preferably outwardly flaring or of tapering form, as shown in the drawings in Fig. l, the propulsion forward of the tobacco by the spring is much more easily effected than where the casing is made of true cylindrical form, and a frequent source of annoyance and trouble in the use of such devices is obviated.
I claim-- 1. Acigarette-casingblank havingportions of different widths, one portion of such width as to constitute, when the blank is rolled up, a seat for an internal tobacco-feeding spring, another portion of such Width as to constitute the body of the cigarette, and still another portion of a width to form a contracted ignition end; substantially as described.
2. A cigarette-casing blank having portions of different widths, one portion of such width as to constitute, when the blank is rolled up, a draft-tube and guide-stem for an internal tobacco-feeding spring, another portion of such width as to constitute the seat for said spring, another portion of a width to form the body of the casing, and another portion of a width to form a contracted ignition end; substantially as described.
3. A cigarette-cartridge, consisting of a body portion, a draft-tube and guide-stem for an internal spring, a seat for said spring, a contracted ignition end, all rolled from a single blank, the said spring, and a tobacco filler; substantially as described.
4.. A cigarette -cartridge, consisting of a body portion tapering inwardly from a point at or near the ignition end, a draft-tube and guide-stem for an internal spring, a seat for said spring, a contracted ignition end, all rolled from a single blank, the said spring, and a tobacco filler; substantially as described.
5. A cigarette-cartridge, consisting of a my hand in lphe presence of two subscribing body portion, a draft-tube, a seat for an in- Witnesses.
ternal sprin a contracted i 'nition end all rolled from single blank, J16 said spring, ALFREDO LEBLANO' 5 and a tobacco filler; substantially as de- Witnesses:
scribed. FERNANDO PoLI,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set ALBERTO OALVO.
