sPEcIrrcAmIoN forming paru of Leiters Patent No. 714,686, dated Deeember 2, 1902.
Application filed January 17, 1901. Serial No. 43,674. (N o model.)
To MZ r11/wm, it may concern.;
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. FLINT, a citizen of San .I ose, county of Santa Clara, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Show-Case, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts herein shown and described and particularly pointed out in the claims. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a back View of a case hooked to the door. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of a one-half-sexangular case. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of a one-half-octagonal case. Fig. 4. is a horizontal sectional View of a one-half-square case. Fig. 5 is a View in perspective of a rounded-back case when swung back from the front of the door, showing a glass-covered opening in the back thereof. Fig. 6 is a perspective View of 'a square case, showing a glass-covered opening in the back thereof. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a onehalf-sexangular case. Fig. 8 is a perspective view of a one-half-octagonal case, showing a glasscovered openingv in the back thereof.
The same letters of reference refer to the same parts throughout the several views and the specification. i
The door D is made with a glass panel Gin its upper part.
'Ihe case C can be made of tin, cloth, metal,
glass, compressed paper, papier-mache, or, as
I prefer, of wood. The case C can be made square, half-sexangular, half-octagonal, or,
as I prefer, with a rounded back, as shown in Fig. 1. The case C can be secured by means of an ordinary T-hinge or socket-hinge or other kind of fastening to the door-post P or door D, or it may be used with the doorD Without fastening means therebetween. In
my preferred construction, however, the edge of one side of an oblong vertical board B is secured by screws to the rim of the case C which is nearest to the door-post P. The other side edge of the board B may be hinged to the edge of the d'oor D; but I prefer to hinge it to 4the door-post P by the hinge I, said door-post P being composed of a jamb and casing.
The object of connecting the case C with the hinges on the post Pby means of the board B is to provide room for the door D, with the case C on it, to swing back against the doorpost P.
The rim of the case C is covered with felt F to secure it dust-proof to the door D. The case C is provided on both sides With hooks H.
In the back of case C, as shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 8, is an opening A, glass-covered to permit a night-watch to look into the store.
In the back of case C, as shown in Figs. l and 7, the glass-covered openingA is omitted.
At night when the store is closed the goods in caseC will be displayed. In opening the 'door D the goods are displayed inside of the store by swinging the case C against the casing of the door-post P.
The centers of the hinges I, which suspend the case C, are inline with the centers of the hinges K, so that they will act together Without any break or tear when opening and clos ing the door D while the case C is hooked thereon.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination With-a door, D, having a glass panel therein, of a case C, adapted to be closely tted to the door, D, hinges on one side of said case forming a connection between said case and door and hooks on the other side of ,said case, C, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination with a door, D,having a glass panel therein, a case, felt, F, on the edge thereof, and a glass panel in the back thereof said case being provided with hinges in alinement with the hinges of said door, so as to enable it to be swung from the same center as that of the door, D, and means to securely fasten said case, C, to said door, D substantially as shown and described.
WILLIAM Gr. FLINT.
