invented a new and improved Manner of Attaching Matcher-Heads to their Mandrels and I do hereby declare f l that the following is a full, clear, and exact .description thereof, which will enable others` skilled iu the art to"V make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part oi'lthis specification,

The object of this invention is to attach a matcher-head to its mandrel in such a manner` that it maybe applied and detached with the greatest facility, so that when it-is desired to use the entire width of the machine for planing or surfacing, the watcher head may be detached without any trouble oi" difficulty whatever, the mandrel remaining ixed or stationary. The ordinary plan is to removejhe matcher-head by taking its mandrel out of'it's bearings, Aor by having the bearings "in one casting, and lowering all out of the way byineans of screws or other mechanism. A. represents the mandrel of the ruatcher-head, which is provided with `a collar, BVthe,1atter being perrita-i` C represents the :natcher-head, which may be of the usual form, with ordinary` l cutters, a, attached to it. The collar B is on one end of the mandrel A, and is equal in diameter` to thc inner" `end of the matcl'rer-head C, the latter abutting against the former. This 'screw-rod secures the matcher-head to the mandrcLpx-oventing any longitu-` dinal movement oi' the former, and a pin, E, which passes through the inner part of the watcher-head into` the V collar B, prevents the matcher-hcad from turning independent of the mandrel. ,ThispinE is rivetedlorrothcr-t. wise firmly securedin the collar, and a hole is made in the matcher-head, so that the pin may pass freely into it. From the above description it will be seen that by simply unscrewing the rod D, the matcher-head may be detached from the mandrel, and the trouble and inconvenience of detaehing or removingthe mandrel or adjust;
