SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 711,961, dated October 28, 19 02.

Be it known that I, J AMES WESLEY Gmecs, a citizen of the United States,residingat Frost, inthe county of Navarro and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Bale-Tie, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bale-ties.
- The object of the invention is to provide a bale-tie which may with readiness and case be locked in position upon a bale and which will be positive in operation and thoroughly efiective for the purpose designed.
\Vith these and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a bale-tie, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts, there is illustrated one form of embodiment' of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the elements therein exhibited may be varied or changed as to shape, proportion, and exact manner of assemblage without departing from the spirit thereof, and in these drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the parts of the tie in interlocked relation. Fig. 2 is a perspective view with the parts of the tie separated. Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal section.

end of the band being passed through the orifice and then bent upon itself and secured to the body of the band by a rivet 6, the other terminal of the band being free to be moved through the orifice with which it 'coacts in order to draw it tightly around the bale. As shown in Fig. 3, the hooks 3 extend above the plane of the band, whereby lateral movement of the tie members when once assembled will be positively obviated, as it will be seen that the edges of the band will contact with the opposed faces of the hooks, and thus be positively held in position.
In securing the band equipped with this tie around a bale the band is placed around the bale and the member 2 disposed with its hooks upward. The band is then passed through the orifice of the other member and the two members interlocked, after which the loose end of the band is drawn tightly, it being normally disposed in the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, and is then bent over upon the member 1 and forced thereagainst, as clearly shown in full lines in Fig. 2, thereby positively securing the band around the bale. By disposingthe orifices 5 as shown in Fig. 3 lateral draft upon the band will be permitted, whereas if the two orifices registered the bend of the band secured in the orifice of the member 2 would prevent this draft upon the band.
Although the bale-tie of this invention is exceedingly simple of construction, it will be found thoroughly efficient and durablein use and certain of operation for the purpose designed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
l.- A bale-tie comprising two members, each provided with spaced hooks to interlock with the other and with an orifice, and aband having its terminals projected through the orifices and disposed between the hooks.
2. A bale-tie comprising two members, each provided with spaced means tointerlock with the other and with an orifice, the orifices to be out of register whenthe members are interlocked, and a band having its terminals projected through the orifices and disposed between the interlocking means.
3. Abale-tie comprising two members, each provided on one end with hooks adapted to engage with the opposite end of the other member, said hooks being spaced apart, one of the members having'an orifice disposed near its hook-bearing end, and the other member having an orifice disposed near its plain end, and a band having its terminals projected through the orifices and disposed between the hooks, one terminal being permanently associated with the member with which 10 it coaets.
