ANSELMO P. MORRIS, OF PARMA, MICHIGAN.
TANK-MOLD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 710,596, dated October 7, 1902.
Application filed July 9 1902. Serial No. 114,948. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANSELMO P. MORRIS, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Parma, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Tank- Mold, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved mold adapted for use in the construction of tanks and the like of cement or other plastic material; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved form or support to be used in the inner shell of the mold and which is adapted to be adjusted to enable it to be used in connection with molds which vary in size and to facilitate its removal from the inner shell.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved tank-mold form or support, showing the same disposed in operative position in the inner shell of the mold. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same.
In the embodiment of myinvention I provide a number of standards 1, four being here shown, each of which is preferably made of a flattened bar of metal of suitable dimensions having its lower end bent inwardly to form a supporting-foot 2. On the inner side of each standard, near the lower and upper ends thereof, are brackets 3 4, each of which is preferably bent from a single piece of metal of the kind used in the construction of the standards. Each bracket has a lower portion a, that bears against and is riveted or otherwise secured to the inner side of a standard,an oifset portion b,forming a space 0 between the bracket and the standard,w hich space is open at its upper side, and an inwardly-extending substantially horizontal arm or lug d at the upper end of the offset portion 17, said lug having an opening. The standards 1 are disposed in pairs and are diametrically opposite each other. Each pair of the standards is provided with a pair of connecting brace-rods 5. Each of the said brace-rods comprises a main arm 6 of suitable length having at one end a pair of forked arms, which extend respectively upwardly and downwardly and inclined outwardly therefrom. The upper arm 7 of each fork has its outer end bent horizontally, as at 8, to form an eye adapted to bear on the lug b of one of the upper brackets 4 and is conuected thereto by a pin 9. The lower arm 10 of each fork has its lower end turned downwardly, vertically, as at 11, to form a connection with the lower bracket 3, the downturned portion 11 entering the opening in the lug or arm I) of the lower bracket. The respective arms 6 of the brace-rods 5 are disposed side by side and are connected together by keepers 12, which are slidable on the arms 6, whereby the brace-rods may be extended longitudinally and adjusted as may be required, and the said keepers are provided with set-screws 13, by means of which the brace-rods when adjusted may be firmly clamped and secured.
The standards 1 in the operation of the device are disposed against the inner side of the inner shell 14 of the mold-section, the said inner shell and also the outer shell 15 of the mold-section being indicated in the drawings in dotted lines. I also provide a pair of supporting-rims, each of which is a hoop, preferably made of bar iron or steel bent in circular or other suitable forum-according to the shape of the mold, and having its ends overlapped, as at e. Thereby each of the rims is adapted to be enlarged or contracted in diameter, as may be required to fit it in the inner shell of the mold. The lower rim 16 fits in the recesses c of the lower brackets 3, bears against the inner sides of the standards 1, and is secured in place by wedge-keys 17, which are inserted in the space between the rim and the offset portions 1) of' said lower brackets. The upper rim 18 is likewise fitted in the spaces a of the upper brackets 4c. The overlapped portions of each of the rims are connected together by keepers19, having setscrews 20, by means of which the rims may be secured when adjusted. It will be understood that by this construction of the form or support the same is enabled to be varied in size, so that it may be used in the molds employed for making tanks of various sizes, and that my improved form or support may be readily applied to and removed from a mold.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. A mold-support of the class described, comprising standards, to bear against the inner shell of a mold, expansible connectingrims supported by the standards and braces connecting said standards together in pairs, the said braces including longitudinally-adjustable elements, substantially as described.
2. A mold-support of the class described, comprising standards to bear against the inner shell of a mold, expansible connectingrims supported by the standards and detachable therefrom and longitudinally-adjustable braces connecting said standards together in pairs, substantially as described.
3. A mold-support of the class described comprising standards to bear against the inner shell of the mold, expansible connectingrims supported by the standards and longitudinally-adjustable braces connecting said standards together in pairs and detachable therefrom, substantially as described.
4. A mold-support of the class described, comprising standards to bear against the inner shell of a mold, connecting-rims, detachably fitted to the standards, and braces disposed diametrically with reference to the rims and detachably connected to the standards, substantially as described.
5. A mold-support of the class described, comprising standards to bear against the inner shell of a mold and having brackets on their inner sides, said brackets having re cesses formed between their upper portions and the standards, which recesses are open at their upper sides, expansible connecting-rims to lie in said recesses, and longitudinally-adjustablebraces secured to the brackets and connecting said standards together in pairs, substantially as described.
6. A mold-support of the class described comprising standards to bear against the inner shell of a mold and having brackets on their inner sides, expansible connecting-rims, means to detachably secure the rims between said brackets and standards, and braces, to connect the standards together in pairs, and
detachably connected to said brackets, sub-
