LEVI HENRY LUCABAUGH, OF BARBERS MILL, INDIANA.
DEVICE FOR HOLDING DOORS. A
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 708,238, dated September 2, 1902.
Application filed June 10, 1902. Serial No. 111,021. (No model.) i
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI HENRY LUCA- BAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Barbers Mill, in the county of Wells and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding Doors and Sashes while Being Fitted; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in devices for holding doors and sashes while the same are being fitted; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts of which it is composed, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure 1 represents a plan View of my device. Fig.2 is afront view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view, partly in section. Fig. 4 is a detail view showing more clearly the plate and its spur, and Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the pressure-bar more clearly.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the holder for doors and sashes, consisting of the forked base-bar a, a vertically-grooved standard b, an inclined brace-bar 0, side wings or angular braces 61 d, and a holding or pressure bar 6, having its movement in a space f between the vertical standard and the Vertical bar g, arranged parallel to said standard. The base is forked at one end in a vertical plane with the groove in the standard, which latter is securely fixed to the base, and the standard is held firmly by the inclined brace-bare. In one of the forked ends is arranged a kerf h, in which is pivoted a plate t', having a slot j through whicha pin' passes, whereby the plate is prevented from leaving the slot, and at the outer end of said plate is a spur Z, that is driven in the floor to retain the device while in operation. The holder is further supported and prevented from lateral displacement by the side an gular wings or braces, that are hinged at the top and bottom to the main vertical standard and held in position by the spring-hooks m. The clamping-bar e is provided on each side thereof with projecting pins or, which have their play in inclined slots 0 0, and the rear portion of said pressure-bar is provided with a spring-handle 10, having a hook 1", that engages a cross-plate s, secured to the standard and outer slotted bar.
It will be observed from the above deserip= tion when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings that after the edge of a door or sash is passed into the vertical groove in the standard and also into the forked end of the base the operator releases the hook of the handle 19 from the cross-plate s and forces the handle downward, thus causing the pressure-bar to clamp the door or sash and held it firmly in position while being dressed or fitted, and when in said position the hook,
reengages the cross-plate.
When the device is not in use, the side wings can be folded back upon the main frame and drawn back by the spring-hooks and the device will take up very little space while shipping, and a device as herein described is durable, easily and quickly operated, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' 1. The combination With the forked basebar and grooved standard of the pressure-bar having the guide-pins, the inclined slots to receive said pins and the handle for operating said bar, substantially as described.
2. In combination with the grooved and slotted standard, of the pressure-bar and handle therefor, the slotted floor-hook pivoted in the kerf in the forked end of the base, the hinged angular side wings or braces and hooks for holding said wings in position while the device is in operation, all substantially as described.
Intestimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEVI HENRY LUOABAUGII.
