UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRITZ LOROI-I, OF BOCKENHEIM, FRAIITKFORT-ON-THEMAIN, GERMANY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 706,673, dated August 12, 1902. Application filed November 29. 1901. Serial No. 84,120. (No model.)
To all whom it Worry concern:
Be it known-that I, FRITZ LORCH, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Koenigstrasse No.27, Bockenheinn, Frankfort on-the-Main, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lathes, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a holder for a hand-rest or the like for lathes which difiers from those hitherto known in the fact that it can be fixed from above in the bed of the lathe and the rest can be fixed on the holder simultaneously by one movement. Hitherto all these supports were fixed from below, the disadvantage of this arrangement being that the bed had to be provided with'a lower longitudinal aperture bywhichthe bed is weakened, so as to give during the working, which, especially in fine Work, is extremely troublesome and gives rise to irregularities. i
In the aocompanyingdrawings, Figurel is a side View of the new apparatus. Fig. 2 is a plan. Fig. 3 is a front view of thesame. Fig. 4 is a section according to A Bin Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 Fig. 2.
The bed a of thelathe can be completely] closed below andhave at the most apertures only for the removal of dust, shavings, and
the like, being otherwise of any suitable shape.
The rest-holder c,"wh0se fixing-plate g moves between the guides on the bed, is formed of a block provided with a deep horizontal kerf d, which nearly or wholly divides the holder 0 into two parts 6 e, movable one toward the other. Both parts are provided with a verti cal passage f for a vertical bolt h, which is formed in one piece with the fixing-plate g below. The upperpart isfurther provided with a cross-passage z, in which a turning is a section according to C Diin bolt 70 is journaled. The said turning bolt 7:
forms at one part of its length an eccentric,
which engages in a cross-opening of the vertical fixing-bolt h, so that when the turning bolt'k is turned inone direction the eccentric draws the fixing-bolt h upward, thus raising the fixing-plate 9 against the under side of the bed and also pressing the two parts of the rest together. The hand-rest or other restslide or lies in a recess arranged partly in the upper and partly in the lower part of the holder, in consequence of which, the two parts being pressed together, the said rest-slide m is likewise frictionally held in the position previously given to it.
I claim 1. The combination with the fixing-plate having a verticalbolt with a transverse hole, of a holder comprising two parts separated by a horizontal kerf and'having a vertical hole and a cross-passage, and, an eccentric-bolt arranged in the cross passage and engaging the hole in the ertical boltysubstantially as describedj I 2. The combinationwith the fiXing-plate having a vertical: bolt with a'transverse hole, of a holder comprising two parts separated by a horizontal 'kerf and having a vertical hole and a cross-passage, the adjacent surfaces of the two parts being grooved to receive the rest-slide, and an eccentric bolt arranged in the cross-passage and engaging the hole in the vertical bolt, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRITZ LOROH.
