TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 706,421, dated August 5, 1902. Application filed March 5, 1901. Serial No. 49,989. (No model.)
the body portion is formed of one piece of material, the object being to provide a simple, cheap, and durable toy.
The invention consists, primarily, of atoy car having its sides formed with downwardlyprojecting cars, which are turned in beneaththe body of the car and united by a clip or in any suitable way to form the body of the car.
The invention also consists in the matters hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claims. 1
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, Figure l is a side elevation of a toy car constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the car is struck up, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the clip for uniting the bottom lugs, and Fig. 4: is a section showing how the clip is fastened.
In the drawings, A represents the blank struck up out of sheet-steel or other metal in one piece, which forms the top, body, sides, and ends of the car. This is provided on two of its opposite edges with cut-out portions having tongues a, formed with round openings 1 to receive the ends of the axles supporting the wheels, tongues 0, provided with slotsd, and central portions 6. When the blank is bent to form the body of the car, the ears'or tongues c are bent inwardly and a T-clip It is used, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, to hold the parts together, the end of this clip 'm extending from the end of the car and having an opening to receive a coupling-link. The part e is also bent inwardly to form the bottom of the car. The ends of the blank are formed with the notches g h and the tongue 1' between the notches h and the projecting parts Z, which are bent inwardly to form the end entrance to the vestibule of the car, the portion of the blank between the end windowf and the projection Zbeing pressed in to form the vestibule-entrance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is-
1. A toy car, composed of a single section bent to form a roof, and downwardly-projecting sides, said sides having inwardly-turned projections, c and e, said projections a being of length sufficient to substantially abut when bent inwardly; with means for securing said oppositely-placed projections 0 together; substantially as described.
2. A toy car composed of a single section bent to form a roof, and downwardly-project ing sides, said sides having inwardly-turned projections provided with slits, and a T-clip k, the head of which is bent to enter the slits; and having its body portion extending beyond the end of the blank and provided with an opening to receive a coupling-link, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY THAYER KINGSBURY.
