Description

UNTTED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
EUGENE FAROY, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO STE. DES ETABLISSE= MENTS FAROY ET OIAPENIIEIM, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
CORSET..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No O6,307, dated August 5, 1902.
Application filed January 9,1902. Serial No. 88,958. (N0 modem To @ZZ whom. it may concern.:
Be it known that I, EUGNE FARCY, a citizen of the French Republic, and a resident of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of cor-s sets which open in front, have busks or steels and corset-clasps to connect the same along the central opening line, and have laced openings at the sides of the busks in the body of the corset.
The present invention has for its object a particular construction of the front andthe lacings at either side of the busks, all of which will be hereinafter more fully explained.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate an embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a front view of the corset, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the lacing-eye.
The principal figure shows the shape of the corset; but there is nothing novel in the outer contour thereof. It is straight in front and by preference closed at the back. There are pendent portions extending down over the hips and down in front also for the attacl1- ment of Suspenders; but these do not relate to this invention especially.
L a are the front portions of the corset, united along their outer edges, below, tothe hipigussets. At the meeting edges of these portions a are placed the ordinary steels or busks b, provided with the usual or any form of clasps b. In the fabrics or portions a, respectively, are formed slits .fr cc, which extend from the top of the corset down to a point usually within about two and one-half inches of the bottom of the busks. These slits are made near the busks, leaving narrow strips or margins of the portions a adjacent to the busks, one at each side. Over the portions c, exterior to the corset and outside of the respective slits, are secured reinforcing-pieces of fabric e, and near the slit margins c in the corset are set in pockets suitable stiffeners d d.
The fabric is broken away in Fig. 1 to show the busks b and stiffeners d in full lines.
The lacing-eyes h have each a loop to receive the lacing-cord c' and have securingeyelets by which they are set in the fabric a along the margins of the slits ac. These eyes are set'alternately in position along opposite sides ofthe slit, so that one lacing-cord serves at each slit. For convenience of illustration the two sides of the slit are shown drawn nearly together at the right in Fig. 1 and as open at the left in this figure. This is merely to illustrate the use of the lacings.
In the fabric a, below the bottom of each slit is set an eyelet f for the attachment of the lacing-cord, and at the waist-line are set two eyelets g at the outer margins of the respective slits. These latter permit lacing of the corset snugly about the waist, while it is left more or less full at the top or about the bust. The separate means or facilities for drawing in or relaxing the corset at the bust and the waist enable the corset to be iitted to the person with accuracy and comfort.
The corset illustrated is supposed to be closed at the back; but this is not important. It may be made open at the back, if desired.
'Having thus described my invention, I claim- A corset, open at the median line in front and provided thereat with busks or steels and clasps, and having at the respective opposite sides of said busks slits a; w which extend onlypart way down from the top of the corset to the bottom thereof, lacing devices along the margins of said slits, lacing-cords engaging said lacing devices, eyelets f at the lower ends of the slits for securing the lacingcords, and pairs of eyelets g at the waist through -which the cords extend, as and for the purpose set forth.
In Witness whereof l have hereunto signed my name, this 20th day ofDecember, 1901, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EUGENE EARGY.
