AUGUST JOSEF JAEGER, OF PHILLIPS, WISCONSIN.
sAw-GLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 705,930, dated July 29, 1902.
Application filed March 29, 1902.
T0 all w/wm/ it may concern: Y
Beit known that LAUGUST JOSEF JAEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phillips, in the county of Price and Statepof Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw Clamps, Y of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to saw-clamps, more particularly of the kind used in securing saws in position to be sharpened or otherwise operated upon.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device ready to be applied to a table or similar structure. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the structure, showing the saw and clamping-plates in position. Fig. 3 is aperspective view, somewhat reduced, showing a pair of my devices in use.
` The device is preferably used in connection with a table 1. In the forest, where no such table is available, one may be" improvised by securing a board upon the tops of two stumps. The saw-clamp comprises a substantially S-shaped frame 2,7the respective ends 3 and of which terminate in screw-eyes 5 6. A jaw 7, provided with a straight and iiat surface, is integrallymounted upon the frame. Screw members 7 8 engage the screw-eyes 5 and 6, respectively. Movable plates 9 10 are mounted upon the screw members and are free to approach and recede from the flat surfaces 7 and 8, respectively. Bosses 11 and 12 upon these plates serve as bearings for the screwmembers. The plates 9 10 are bifurcated at 13 14, so asto engage the slideways 3 13a.' The flat boards 15 16 are of substantially the same conformity as the saw-blade 17.
My device is used as follows: A saw is placed between the boards, the clamps are SerialNo. 100,564=. (No model.)
secured upon the table /as indicated in Fig. 3, the boards containing the saw are placed between the jaws 7 and the plates 9, the screws are all tightened, and the operative proceeds to file the saw in the usual manner. 5o
I do not limit myself to the particular shape and size of boards shown, for obviously these boards may be 'made of any shape and size, so as to conform to the shape and size of any ordinary saw used by hand.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A saw-clamp, comprisinga substantially S-shaped member terminating at each of its ends in a screw-eye, and provided with a slide disposed adjacent to leach of said eyes, a screw member engaging each of said eyes, and a iat plate mounted transversely upon each of said screw members, and provided with a bifurcated edge for straddling one of said slides, being guided thereby.
2. A saw-clamp, comprising a frame pro'- vided with a depending bracket, a screw-eye integrally vmounted upon said bracket, a screw engaging said screw-eye, a plate mounted upon said last-mentioned screw, a jaw integrally mounted upon said frame opposite said last-mentioned plate, a jaw integrally mounted upon said frame at right angles with the jaw first mentioned, a bracket integrally mounted upon saidframe and provided with a screw-eye and with a slide, a screw revolubly mounted in said screw-eye, and a plate provided with an aperture engaging said screw, and with a bifurcated end for straddling said slideway. t In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUST JOSEF JAEGER.
