FFlCE;
PATENT FELIX PIRRUNG, OF RAVENSWOOD, ILLINOIS.
SPRINKLING S CRUB-BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 705,861, dated July 29, 1902.
Application filed March 21, 1902. Serial No. 99,308. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that], FELIX PIRRUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ravens-- wood, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in sprinkling Scrub-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in a device to be used for cleaning floors and other surfaces; and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction, novel arrangement, and operation of the various parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a combined scrub-brush, m0p,and water-carrier therefor which shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, strong, durable, and effective,in operation, and which shall be so constructed that water maybe admitted to the receptacle or reservoir therefor through its lower portion and sprinkled therefrom, as required, over the parts of the floor which it is desired to wet or moisten.
Another object of the invention is to so construct it that the device may be used as an ordinary scrub-brush or as a mop.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be disclosed in the subjoined description and explanation.
In order to enable others skilled in theart to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a sprinkling scrub-brush embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the front of the brush, showing a portion of the water receptacle or reservoir broken away. Fig. 3 is an end view in elevation thereof. Fig. 4 is a plan view showing aportionof the water receptacle or reservoir broken away and illustrating the valve for closing the inletopenings thereto; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional View, taken on line 5 5 of Fig. 4, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows, but showing the mop-piece removed.
Similar letters refer to like parts throughout the different views of the drawings.
A represents the brush block or body,which may be of any suitable size, form, and material, but preferably of wood and rectangular in shape, as is shown in the drawings. The lower surface of this block or body is provided with bristles a of any suitable material to form a brush. Secured to the upper surface of the block A, at about its middle, is a bers 0 may be secured within the groove 5 of the block or body A by means of screws 0, as well as being retained therein by'reason of the dovetailed shape of the groove and said piece. The block A is provided near one of its ends with cavities or openings 65, from which extend openings (1 through the adjacent end of the block and also one or more openings (1 through the rear side of the block, which openings are for thepurpose of admitting water to the cavities d, the open ends of which are normally closed by means of a valve or door D, secured at one of its edges by means of hinges e to the upper surface of the brush block or body, the said hinges being located near the cavities d therein. The upper portion of the front and rear surfaces of the block A are provided with longitudinal recesses e to receive the side edges of the box E, which edges may be secured to the block by means of small nails 6 or otherwise. The box E-is preferably rectangular in shape and has its end adjacent to the handle B open, while its other end is closed by means of a bloclrlll, having a series of perforations or openings e communicating with the interior of the box, through which openings the water may be sprinkled on the floor or othersurface.
From the foregoing and by reference to the drawings it will beseen andclearly understood that by turning the block A so that the box or receptacle E will be on its lower portion the same may be placed in a bucket or vessel containing water, which will flow through the openings 01, 62 and a in which operation the valve or door D will yield sufficiently to allow the water to pass into the reservoir or receptacle E until it contains the desired amount, when by raising the device from the vessel or receptacle the door or valve D will be closed, thus preventing the Water escaping through the openings 01, d, and d but allowing it to be discharged or sprinkled through the openings e in the side of the receptacle. By turning the block A so that the moppieces 0 will rest on the floor it is apparent that the same may be mopped thereby.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a sprinkling scrub-brush, the combination with a block or body having in one of its ends cavities provided with a series of openings, a door or valve hinged to the upper surface of the block to close said cavities, and a box secured to the block or body over the cavities therein and having in its outer end a series of openings, substantially as described.
