SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Ratent No. 704,084, dated July 8, 1902,
Application filed November 11, 1901. Serial No. 81,786. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW M. NELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Littleyork, in the county of Warren and State of' Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fly-Screens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of screens used to screen a doorway, the object in view being to provide an overhead screen attachment the purpose of which is to prevent the flies from getting into the house by going over the top of the screen-door; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The novel construction and arrangement of the several parts are hereinafter more fully described, and then specificallydefined in the appended claim.
In the drawings and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, like figures indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Figure l is a perspective view of a doorway, showing the screen complete attached to the casing of the doorway. Fig. 2. is atop plan view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the top portion of the screen. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the side portion of the screen. Fig. 5 is aperspective view of one of the metal plates which are secured to the door-casing, the central part of the plate being bent so as to form an eye into which the ends of the wire rods are inserted when the screen is attached over the doorway.
Reference now being had to the accompanying drawings by numerals, 1 represents a screen-door.
2 represents the top portion of the screen, which forms the one-fourth part of a circle and is secured to the wire rod 3, The ends of the wire rod 8 are bent downward at right angle, as shown at 4, by which the screen is attached and which act as a brace to hold the screen level over the doorway. When the screen is attached, the ends of the wire rod are inserted in the eye 11, that is formed in the metal plates 10.
5 represents the side portion of the screen which is secured to the wire rod 6, the ends of which are bent to form hooks, as shown at 7, and which hook over the wire rod 3, as shown at 8. The lower part of the wire rod 6 at one corner of the side screen is bent downward, as shown at 9, and is inserted in the eye of one of the metal plates when the screen is attached.
10 represents one of the metal plates which are secured to the door-casing and has the eye 11 bent in the center to receive the ends of the wire rods.
The dotted lines at 12 in Fig. 2 represent the top edge of the screen-door standing par-- tially open.
It is a well-known fact that the flies will gather on the outside of the screen=door in great numbers, especially in damp weather, waiting for a chance to pop into the house every time the screen-door is opened, and as a person is usually passing through the doorway when the screen-door is opened the flies will not go in at the side of the door; but when this screen attachment is used it-will close up this open space at the top of the doorway and effectually prevents the flies from getting in over the top of the screen-door.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A screen attachment, comprising an overhead screen secured to a wire rod, the ends of said wire rod being bent downward at right angle in such a manner that the screen may readily be attached to the door-casing, a side screen secured to a wire rod, the ends of said rod being bent to form hooks, by which the said side screen is attached to the overhead screen, substantially as shown and described.
