M. ANSELL. DOOR ADJUSTER.
No. 575,683. Patented Jan. 26,1897,
WITNESSES INVENTOR ATTORNEY-5'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MINNIE ANSELL, OF OHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE.
DOOR-ADJUSTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 57 5,683, dated January 26, 1897. Application filed May 20, 1896. $erial No. 592,278. (No model.)
To wZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MINNIE ANSELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chattanooga, in the county of Hamilton and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Adjusters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to means for holding doors or hinged windows in a Vertical open position, whereby proper means for ventilation may be secured; and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective device of this class which is adapted to be secured to the frame of the door or window to act upon or in connection with said door or window.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a front view of a portion of a door-frame provided with my improvement and also of a portion of the door, and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, A represents a part of the doorframe; B, asection of the doorwhich is hinged therein; and in the practice of my invention I provide a device for holding the door ajar and in any desired position, which consists of a semicircular wire, which is provided at each end with a spiral coil d, each of which is provided with a project-ion 01 and said projections are passed through suitable keepers (1 which are secured to the frame of the door.
The semicircular wire D is provided with a plurality of vertical convolutions d the spaces between which are wide enough to grasp and hold the edge of the upper end of the door, and said semicircular wire is held in position on the frame so that a central line open, and in this operationit will strike the lower part of one of the convolutions d and pass beneath the same and will be held in the spaces between the same at any desired angle, it being understood that the semicircular wire,
which is composed of spring metal, will rise,
so as to allow the door to swing beneath it, and said wire will spring downwardly, so as to securely hold the door.
It will be apparent that this device may also be secured to the frame of a hinged window; and my invention is not limited to the exact form, construction, and arrangement thereof as herein shown and described, and I reserve the right to make such alterations therein as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
My improvementis perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and,
Having fully described the same, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described device for holding a hinged door or window in an open position, which consists of semicircular wire bent to form vertical coils or convolutions and provided at each end with spiral coils adapted to be secured to the frame of the door or window, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 13th day of May, 1896.
MINNIE ANSELL.
Vitnesses MEYER ANsELL, FANNIE ANSELL.
