To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, LEVI S. COUPLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Greenfield, in the county of Dade and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Canopy- Screens for Doors, of which t-he following is a specification.

My invention relates to canopy screens for doors and has for its object to provide a device for preventing flies or other insects from entering a building at the upper portion of the door opening when a door is opened.

It is a well known fact that flies gather at the top of a door more than at the sides, so that when the door is opened they enter the building before the door can be closed.

In accomplishing my present object I provide a form of canopy which projects forwardly from the top of the door frame and is hung partly down the side of the openingand when combined with a suitable brush, that is carried by the door, will serve to drive the nies or other insects away from the door and prevent their entrance to the building when the door is opened.

It is a further object of my invention to provide the improved details of structure hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure I is a perspective view of a canopy screen constructed according to my invention and illustrating its application to a door frame. Eig. II is a side view of same. Fig. III is a. horizontal section on the line III-III, Fig. I. F ig. IV is a detail view of the upper portion of a screen doo-r, provided with a brush for carrying out my invention.

Referring more in detail to the parts :-1 designates a door frame and 2 a door of ordinary construction, with the exception that the latteris preferably provided at its upper edge with a clamp 3 which extends across the entire width thereof and carries a brush 4.

5 designates a canopy frame which is preferably constructed of sheet metal, U- shaped in cross section and provided with transverse ribs 6, which latter may be of any suitable number for strengthening the frame.

Fixed within the grooves in the frame 5 is a screen 7, preferably of wire mesh, the inner edge of which projects beyond the frame and is bent over the door frame 1 and secured thereto by a plate 8. Frame 5 is preferably provided with an integral downturned side member 9 of the same construction as the frame 5 and provided with one or more ribs 10 and with a screen 11, which is fixed in the frame pieces and attached to the door frame by a plate 12,

which may be integral with the upper plate 8.

The side frame 9 is preferably curved to correspond with the circumferential path of the outer edge of the door 2, so that such edge remains the same distance from the screen during its travel in proximity thereto. The side edge o-f the door 2 is also prefera-bly provided with a brush 4, which is adapted for contact with the curved inner face of the side screen 11. A

In order to provide against misformation of the canopy through warping or from other causes, I provide the side edges of the upper frame 5 with brackets 13 and provide these brackets with outwardly directed rods 14 having screw threaded ends 15.

Mounted on the adjacent ends of the rods 14 is a turn buckle 16, by means of which the ends of the canopy may be spread to retain the screen and frame in their pro-per shape' The side frame 9 is likewise provided with brackets 17, rods 18 anda turn buckle 19 for the saine purpose.

It is apparent that with the canopy in place and properly mounted, relative to the swinging door, that when the door is opened the brushes will contact with the inner surface of the canopy screen and drive the flies or insects away from the door opening, and by extending the canopy a suficient distance in front of the opening, it will be impossible for such flies or insects to enter the building before the door is again closed.

The method of spreading the frames to maintain the formation of the canopy has been described.
