SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,880, dated July 1, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. WRIDE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,
have invented a new and Improved Socket- .Oever and Globe-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to electric-lamp x- :o tures; and its object is to provide a new and improved fixture which is simple and durable in construction and arrangedto combine a socket-cover and globe-holderwhich' can be readily and securely-placed in vposition to cover the lamp-socket and to form anl exceedingly strong globe-holderrequiring no separate attachment on the cover.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as

The improved socket-cover and globe-holder is formed from a single piece of metal or other suitable material spun or otherwise formed 3 5 into the desired shape, so that the globeholder forms an integral part of the socketcover. The fixture, as shown in Fig. 8, consists of the cylindrical portion A, from the upper end of which iiares outwardly the neck l4o A', terminating in the rim A2, adapted to receive and hold the'globe. Portions of the neck A are cut and bent inwardly to form extensions A3 for the cylindrical portion A to engage with the latter the socket B of the electric lamp. The socket B is of any approved construction and is adapted to support the bulb C, as indicated in Fig. l; but it is expressly understood that the cylindrical portion A and its extensions A3 iit snugly 5o onto the exterior surface of the said socket. The lower end of the cylindrical portion A fits into and is secured to the cap D, held on the upper end of the socket-support E, and a suitable fastening means may be employed to fasten the said cylindrical portion A and the cap together. For instance, as shown in the drawings, the cylindrical portion A is formed with' a bayonet-slot A4, engaging a pin F, carried by the dome-shaped cap D. The rim A? is provided with suitable fasten- 6o ing means,` such as screws G, for securely locking the globe in position on the rim A2 of the globe-holder. The cylindrical portion A may also be provided with a cut-out portion A5 (see'Fig. l) for the passage of the shank 65 of the key H, used for operating the contact mechanism in the socket B.
It is evident that by forming the socket- Vcover integral with the globe-holder it requires but a simple attachment of the device 7e on the socket B, and a separate adjustment and securing of the globe -holder on the socket-cover is not necessary. Furthermore, by forming the two devices of one piece of material it is evident that a very strong and durable fixture is provided to securely hold the globe in position on the lamp.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters ,Patent- 8o 1. As an article of manufacture an electriclight fixture comprising a cap adapted to serve as a support and provided with'a screw, a socket-cover provided with abayonet-slot for engaging said screw, said socket-cover being provided with a cylindrical portion and with a ring integrally connected with said cylindrical portion by a flaring neck, portions of said neck being'cut and formed into a substantially cylindrical portion, the same form- 9o ing an extension of said first-named cylindrical portion and located within said ring and concentric thereto, and a socket located partly within said cylindrical portion and partly within said cylindrical extension thereof.
2. An electric-lamp fixture comprising a combined socket-cover and globe-holder having a cylindrical portion to lit over the socket and a flaring portion connecting said cylindrical portion with the globe-holder and hav- 10o ing portions of the flaring portion separated at their upper ends and at their sides and name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
