SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 700,045, dated May 13, 1902. I Application filed September 10, 1901. fierial No. 74,968. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, RYERsoN W. HILLIKER,
a citizen of the United States,,residing at Kansas City, in the county of Wyandotte and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bake-Ovens for Gas or Gasolene Stoves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,-and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a bake-oven for gas or gasolene stoves.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of thischaractenwhichshall be simple of construction, durable in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, which may be used for baking or steaming foods, and which will perform its duties in an effective, economical, and satisfactory manner.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangewhich consists of two single ovens connected together. When the device is usedasahake-oven, the articles of food are placed upon the shelves and the burner of the stove adjusted to supply the desired amount of heat. The hot air passes up through the opening in the bottom of the oven formed by the inwardly-projecting annular flange around the edges of the lower shelf, circulates in the space between the two shelves, thence passes up around the edge of the upper shelf and over the same, and is then drawn through the central portion of the top, through which it escapes through the perforations into the space formed between the two parts of the top, and finally passes out through the openings a When the device is used as a steamer, the lowermost shelf may be removed and a pan or receptacle of water placedintheoven upon form, as desired. When arranged in duplex form, the ovens are connected together by sheets of metal 10, screwed, riveted, or otherwise suitably secured to the sides of the oven, and provided with a bail or handle 00.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, mode of operation, and advantages of my invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and details of construction maybe made within the scope of the invention Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In an oven of the character described, the combination with the casing provided with an inwardly-projecting annular flange leaving a central draft-opening, a deflector se-- cured to said flange above said opening, and shelves in said opening and provided with supporting-legs, the supporting-legs of the uppermost shelf being longer than those of the lowermost shelf, the supporting-legs of said shelves extending laterally from the edges of said shelves and engaging the sides of the oven to prevent lateral shifting of said shelves, substantially as set forth.
2. In an oven of the character described, the combination with the oven-casing having a top consisting of two parts spaced apart, one of said parts being provided with draftopenings at the center and the other part being provided with draftopenings near its periphery, an inwardly-projecting annular flange secured to the lower end of the casing and leaving a central draft-opening, a deflector secured to said flange above said opening, and shelves in said opening and provided with supporting-legs, the supporting-legs of the uppermost shelf being longer than those of the lowermost shelf, the supporting-legs of said shelves extending laterally from the edges of said shelves and engaging the sides of the oven to prevent lateral shifting of said shelves, substantially as set forth.
