JOHN M. MILLEaoF ORESTLINE, KANSAS.
HOLDER FOR DUST-PANS, BROOMS, AND DUST-BRUSHES.
SPECIFICA'JIION forming part of Letters Patent No. 698,987, dated April 29, 1902.
Application filed February 19,1902. Serial No. 94,757. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN M. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Orestline,in the county of Cherokee and State of Kansas, haveinvented a new and Improved Holder for Dust-Pans, Brooms, and Dust- Brushes,of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its object to provide a novel simple device that is attachable upon the wall of a room at a suitable height from the floor and which affords convenient and reliable means for support of a dust-pan, broom, and dust-brush when the same are notin use.
The invention consists in the novel con struction and combination of parts, as is hereinafter described, and defined in the claims.
Reference is bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement-secured upon a wall and in service as a holder for a dust-pan, broom, and dust-brush. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detached front view of the improved holder. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view substantially on the line 3 3 in Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view substantially on the line 4 4 in Fig. 2.
In the drawings, '5 indicates a back board whereon the holder proper is secured, and said board may with advantage be given an oblong rectangular form and have perforations at at the corners to permit the insertion of screws or nails a to secure the board upon an upright fixed support.
The holder is formed of a wirerod bent into special form, as follows: At the longitudinal center of the wire rod'a loop 6 is bent,
thus providing two side members, which merge into two oppositely-turned coils 7,
from which extend the remaining portions 8" of the wire rod, and on said portions memhere 9 are bent to extend in opposite directions in the same plane, as shown in Fig. 2. The alined portions 9 of the wire-rod material may be of equal length and at each extremity have a hook 10 bent outward and upward.
The holder device formed of wire, as ex- .plained, is secured upon the back board 5 by staples 11, so that the spring-coils 7 will be reversed in position, so as to be projected upwardly above the back board 5, the handle of the broom in either case being clasped between the spring-coils 7.
It will be apparent that the holder device is very simple and eflicient in service and atfords convenient means for retention of the sweeping and dust-catching implements A, B, and O in place and at hand for removal from the holder as occasion may require.
While the back board 5 is shown as disposed horizontally, it may, it found desirable, be arranged vertically and the holder proper be correspondingly arranged upon the back board.
.It is practical to dispense with the back board 5 and secure the holder proper directly upon an upright wall or beam. Hence I do not limit my invention to the employment of the back board, but preferably employ it as an adjunctive feature for the holder, that consists of the wire strand bent as hereinbefore described.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. .A holder for dust-pans, brooms, dustbrushes or the like, comprising a wire rod turned spring-coils, depending members ex-I In testimony whereof I have signed my tended from the coils, alined horizontal memname to this specification in the presence of hers, bent oppositely, on the lower ends of two subscribing witnesses.
the depending members, hooks turned out- JOHN M. MILLER.
ward and upward on the horizontal members Witnesses: at their free ends, and means forsecuringthe C. A. MONEILL, holder device upon the back board. D. C. FINN.
