Be it known that 1, JAMES 0001: Jones, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, inthe county of Larue and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vial-Carrying Frames,of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an attachment for physicians carriages; and the primary object thereof is to provide a cheap, simple, and durable device for attachment to the body of the carriage or vehicle, whereby a number of vials or bottles may be conveniently carried or transported from place to place.

WVith this object in view the invention consists in the parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be specifically described hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and defined in the appended claims.

In the drawings, Figure l designates a fragmentary sectional view through the body of the Wagon, showing the invention applied. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the frame members. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail View of the lock. Fig. 4. is a similar view of the outer bar, showing the lock detached. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the frame. Fig. 6 is a sectional View on the line 6 6 of Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary elevation of one of the side bars. Fig. 8 is a top plan view of a corner adjustment. Fig. 9 is a side elevation thereof.

Referring now to the drawings by numerals of reference, 1 and 2 designate two parallel strips or bars having right-angular strips adj ustably secured together by a suitable bolt 3 passing through slots at in the lateral arms 1 and 2 thereof, and each strip or bar 1 and 2 is provided with a short arm 17, which is either formed integral with parallel outer bars 1 and 2 or separately and adjustably secured thereto by suitable bolts 21 passing through a slot 20, said arm 17 extending right angularly therewith and having a notch 18 in its vertical outer edge, so as to adapt it to receive a headed stud 19, constructed for the purpose of retaining said arms in a predetermined position. These strips or members 1 and 2 are each provided with a plurality of vertical notches 5.

Slidably secured on the inner side of each member 1 and 2 is a bar 6, having L-shaped notches 7, which coincide with the notches 5, so that when the transversely-arranged bottle-holding clip 8 is secured in place through the medium of its ends dropping in the notches the bar 6 may be moved forward, so that the lateral portion of the L-shaped notch will cover the notch 5, and thereby prevent any upward displacement of the clip. These bars 6 are fastened to the bars 1 and 2 through the medium of bolts 9 and 10, which pass through slots 11 and 12 in said bars.

13 designates a pivoted lock or latch which is secured to the bars 6 at points eccentric to each other, so that when the latch is raised in a vertical position, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the vertical portions of the slot will register. As soon, however, as the latches are forced down to a horizontal plane the interior bars 6 will be actuated, so that the lateral portion of the notches will cover the notches in the outer bars and the displacement of the vial-holding clip will be prevented, as above described. In order to provide against the latch becoming displaced by the excessive jarring of the vehicle, I provide a boss or lug 14 on the lower end of said latch, which is designed to spring into a notch or offset 15 or a segmental slot 15 impressed or otherwise provided in the outer bars 1 and 2. A cut-out portion 16 is provided in the latch 13, so as to span over the rod on the vial-carrying clip 8 when the same is in position. Through the medium of the adjustment illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 it Will be seen that this attachment may be made to accommodate any-sized wagon body, and varying widths may be employed without affecting the utility of the invention.

While I have specifically described what at this time appears to me to be the very best means of accomplishing the desired result, I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein shown and described, and I therefore reserve the right to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within thescope of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a device of the character described, the combination with two adjustable rigl1t-angul'ar bars each provided with vertical notches designed to receive the transverse bars or rods, of slidable bars provided on the inner side of the first-named bars and having L-shaped notches adapted to engage the transverse bars and lock them with relation to the first-named bars.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination with two outer bars provided with notches, of transversely-arranged vialcarr'ying rods adapted to be seated in said notches and notched inner bars parallel with the first-named bars to engage the transverse rods to lock them in position.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination of two parallel fixed out-er bars having vertical notches, two sliding inner bars provided with locking-notches, and connected with the outer bars and Working on the latter, a lever eccentrically mounted on an inner bar and engaging the adjacent outer bar.

4. In a device of the character described, the combination of tWo fixed outer bars adjustably secured together, inner bars secured to the outer bars and adapted to slide with relation thereto; both sets of bars being provided with notches, and the locking-levers secured to adjacent bars for the purpose described.

5. In a device of the character described, the combination of two parallel outer bars, having right-angular slotted arms, whereby they are adj ustably secured, and opposite ends providing inwardly-extending right-angular short arms, each having a notch formed on its extremity, two parallel inner bars, and levers actuating and locking simultaneously the parallel inner bars.

6. In a device of the character described, the combination of two parallel bars, adapted to be adjustably secured by arms formed at each end, extending inwardly at right angles, inner bars sliding parallel to the outer bars, and actuated by locking-levers, having an engaging lug formed on their lower pivoted ends and operating in a notch or slot formed in the outer bars.

7. In a device of the character described, the combination of two outer bars, provided with notches, transversely-arranged vial-carrying rods adapted to be seated in said notches, and inner bars having L-shaped notches, said bars slidably secured to the outer bars, and levers pivotally mounted on the inner bars, and having cut-out portions on their upper ends, and retaining-lugs formed on theirlower parts engaging the outer parallel bars, where by the inner bars are actuated into a locking posit-ion.
