PRESS BOX.
NITE STATES GEORGE WV. ZODER, OF BOYCE, LOUISIANA.
PRESS-BOX.
.QPECIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 695,990, dated March 25, 1902. Application filed February 27, 1901. Serial No. 49,129. (No model.)
To (tZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ZODER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boyce, in the parish of Rapides and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Press-Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to improvements in press-boxes of presses for expressing oil from oleaginous substances, as cotton-seed, and has for its object to provide a box from which the oil as expressed can readily escape.
To this end the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will now be described, and the particular features of novelty pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a press-box constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of one of the strips of which the box is constructed.
Similar letters of reference in the several figures indicate the same parts.
In the drawings the letter A indicates the strips of which the box is composed, of any suitable material, preferably steel, each of.
the strips being formed with a dovetail B along its inner edge. The walls ofthe pressbox, whether rectangular, as shown in the drawings, or other shape, are formed of a series of these strips placed side by side and united with the dovetail portions forming the inner surface of the box. These strips A are so spaced apart that the proximate edges of the dovetails will lie close together, forming narrow slits c and the relatively wide channels 0 between the body portions of the strip A. These narrow slits 0 will act as a screen, eltectually preventing the passage of any deleterious substances, while offering no obstruction to the passage of oil, and opening directly into the wider channels 0 the oil will be prevented from clogging. To enable the strips to be properly spaced, so that these channels 0 may be formed, spacers or blocks D are placed between the strips, preferably at top and bottom, as shown.
To permit the oil that is expressed to find its way readily from the faces of the strips to the channels 0, openings or passages on are formed through the overhang portion of the dovetail, said passages being preferably tapered outwardly, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a press-box for oil-presses the combination with the strips having the dovetail inner edges having outwardly-tapering passages formed through the overhang portions of the dovetails, said strips placed side by side so as to leave narrow slits between the proximate edges of the dovetails and wide,
channels between the body portions thereof, into which channels the tapered passages lead, and the spacers located between the strips; substantially as described.
GEO. W. ZODER.
