AERATOR FOR MILK.
SPECIFICATION fOIming part 0f Letters Patent NO. 695,570, dated March 18, 1902. Application iiled January l0, 1902., Serial No. 89,111. (No model.)
nesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aerators for Milk, of which the following, when taken in connection with the drawing accompanying and forming a part hereof, is a full and complete description,A
sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to whichit pertains to understand, make, and use the same.
This invention relates to an apparatus for forcing cooled air through a body of milk, thereby aerating and cooling the milk.
The object of this invention is to obtain an apparatus for cooling air and for forcing the same through a body of milk-as, say, a can of milkwhich will be Vsimple vvin "construction and not liable to get out of order.
In the drawing referred to there is shown a vertical view of an apparatus embodying this invention, an elevation of a can containing milk, and a connecting-pipe from theapparatus to the can, the front wallof the can being partially broken away to expose to View `the contents of the can, including therlower end of the connecting-pipe, such lower endY being shown in vertical section.
A reference-letter applied to designate a given part is used to indicate such part throughout the drawing.
A `is an outer receptacle,which may contain water or a Vmixture of water and ice,`water and salt, or other cooling liquid;
B is a receptacle settinginto receptacle A.
O is a cylindrical partition in receptacle B and may be attached to the bottom b of such receptacle B.
b is an aperture in the bottom b of the receptacle B.
D is a receptacle setting in receptacle B. E is a cylinder rigidly secured in the neck of the receptacle B, and E is a packing-boxY Il is the handle, by means of which the cylinder F can be operated.
I is thev upper surface of the liquid in receptacle vB and in the annular chamber J between cylinder D andcylindrical partition C of receptacle B.l
J is the annular'chamber between cylinders E and F and the receptacle D.
VK is the outlet from cylinder B, and L is a E l l valve at the upper end of such outlet K.
M is a' removable top to the outlet K, and N is a flexible pipe from outlet K to near the bottom of the receptacle O.
P is liquid, as milk, in receptacle 0. f
`Q isa pipe having the iiaringlower end q,
suchpipe having the pipe N attached thereto the cylinder through the valve G and forced n n from such cylinder through annular chamber J, annular chamber J', and outlet K,- through valve L, connection M, pipe Q, Haring end q, and through the milk P (which is cooled and aerated thereby) in the receptacle O. The packing El prevents the escape of the air, which is forced through the milk P, as last above described, in the ordinary way of preventing the escape of air around a moving piston by packing.
The air is cooled l1n its passage through the apparatus by the liquid in receptacle A and in the annular chamber between cylindrical partition C and the receptacle D.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byl Letters Patent, isll. In an aerator and milk-cooler, the com-` bination of a receptacle, a cylindrical partition in the receptacle', an additional receptacle fitting loosely in the cylindrical lpartition of the first-named receptacle, a longitudinally-niovable cylinder, a valve in the upper end of the cylinder, an outlet to the firstnamed receptacle, a checlcvalve in such outlet, and a flexible connection from such outlet, and an outer receptacle in which the firstnamed receptacle may be placed, such outer receptacle arranged to hold a cooling liquid, whereby air may be cooled and forced through such flexible connection and through the liquid in which the end of the connection is immersed: substantially as described.
2. In an aerator and milk-cooler, the coinbination of a receptacle, a cylindrical partition in the receptacle, an aperture in the bottorn of the receptacle opening into the charnber Within the cylindrical partition, an additional receptacle Within the cylindrical pariition, whereby coolingliquid surrounding the first-named receptacle inay enter the bottom thereof and surround the last-named and inner receptacle, a longitudinally-movable cylinder in the receptacle, such cylinder closed at its upper end, a Valve in the upper end of the cylinder opening on the upward movement thereof to admit air into such cylinder and to close on the downward movement of such cylinder, an outlet from the receptacle, a check-valve in the outlet, a flexible pipe connected with the outlet, and a packing interposed between the neck ofthe first-named receptacle and the longitudinally-movable cylinder; and an outer receptacle in which the first-namedecylinder may be placed, such outer receptacle arranged to hold a cooling liquid; whereby air may be cooled in the apparatus and such air then forced through the outlet thereof and through the flexible connection attached thereto: substantially as described.
