UNTTED STATES l PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES oooMBER, or NEW' YoRK, N. Y., AssIGNoR oF ONE-HALF To CHARLES o. NARET, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
SQUEEZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 694,617, dated March 4, 1902.
Application filed June 5; 1901. Serial No. 63,332. (No model.)
the several novel features of construction hereinafter described and more particularly `deued by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings, Figure rl isa perspective -view of a squeezer embodying the invention, the parts being shown in position to receive the article wherefrom the juice is to be expressed. Fig. 2 is a view on a somewhat larger scale, partly in section and partly in -side elevation, the members being shown in closed position.
The squeezer comprises two frame members A and B. A denotes the lower member of the jsqueezer, and said member comprises a han- 'dle a, a ring portion o', and an arm or lug a2, extending rearwardly and upwardly therefrom. B denotes a coacting upper member or jaw and comprises a handle l), a cone or plunger b', and an arm or lug h2, pivotally at-, tached to the bifurcated terminal of arm t? by pin or rivet 3.
A holder O comprises a cup-like body c for holding the article from which the juice is to be expressed, apivotlug c',whereby the holder is pivotally secured to member A by pin 4, and an operating-arm c2,having an opening c3 therein, wherethrough arm b2 of member B is extended. The holder is normally positioned with its cup extending upwardly, so a lemon or the like can be quickly and conveniently placed therein. A notch c4 in the lower edge of cup c serves as an exit for the juice.
The operation is as follows: Assuming the members to be in position shown in Fig. l, it will be seen that the holder is inverted and in position to permit a lemon to be conveniently placed thereinI and to hold the lemon. The operator will then force the handles o, and b together, and during such shift member B will swing about pivot 3 and cause arm h2 thereof, which is extended through opening c3 of operating-arm c2, to oscillate the holder C about pivot 4. Simultaneously the cone b' will engage the lemon, enter the holder, and express `the juice therefrom. When the handles are -brought together, the holder will have been shifted'iuto position to discharge the expressed juice, and the cone will have entered the holder. Y During the initial shift of the members the cone will engage the lemon and -hold it securely seated in the holder. When .the residue of the lemon is to be removed from the squeezer, the handles will be separated and the holder will be shifted in reverse direction and inverted for conveniencev in removing the lemon, and the cone will be simultaneously withdrawn from the holder. Thus it will be seen that the invention provides a squeezer in which the cone and holder aresimultaneously and positively shifted together to express and discharge the juice, and, furthermore, the reverse shift separates the cup and cone and inverts the holder into convenientposition to receive the articles. The compressing parts- 0). e., the cup and conewhen the members are'in open position are separated sufficiently to permita lemon or the like to be placedinto the holder, and, furthermore, the holder is i'nverted,'so as to hold the article. y member the cone will engage and secure the lemon before the holder has been tilted into discharging position. On reverse shift the cone will be withdrawn and the holder inverted to permit the residue to be convenieiitly removed.
The construction throughout is simple, and it will be seen that the necessity ot tilting the squeezer laterally to discharge the juice from the squeezer is entirely avoided.
On shift of 4the', upper frame The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details shown and described, but may be modified by the skilled mechanic without departing from the spirit of the in vention.
Having thus described my invention, what IOO I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a squeezer, the combination with two frame members, and a pivotal connection between said members, of two compressing` parts, one of which is securedto one of said members, and the other of which is pivotally secured to one of said members and operatively connected to the other of said members, said parts being connected so the relative shift of one of said members will el'I'ect the shift of both of said compressing parts.
2. In a squeezer, the combination with two pivotally-connected frame members, each of which is provided with a handle, of two compressing parts, one of which is rigidly secured to one of said members, and the other of which is pivotally secured to one of said members and operatively connected to the other of said members, said parts being connected so the relative shift of one of said frame members will eect the coaction of the compressing parts and the shift necessary to bring the compressing parts into position to discharge the expressed juice.
3. In a squeezer, the combination with two pivotally-connected frame members, each of which is provided with a handle, of two compressing parts, one of which is rigidly secured to one of said members, and the other of which is pivotally secured to 011e of said members and operatively connected to the other of said members, said parts being connected so the relative shift of one of said frame members will effect the coaction of the compressing parts and the shift necessary to bring the compressing parts into position to discharge the expressed juice when shifted in one direction and to bring the parts into loading position when shifted in the other direction. 4o
holder pivotally secured to one of said memt bers and operatively ,connected to the other of said members, and whereby the relative shift of the frame members will effect the coaction of the cone or plunger and said holder, and the shift of said holder.
5. In a squeezer, the combination with two frame members pivotally connected at one end, and each of which is provided with a handle, of a plunger or cone rigidly secured to one of said frame members, and a holder pivotally connected to one of said members, and provided with an arm having an opening therein wherethrough the other of said frame members is extended.
6. In a squeezer, the combination with two frame members, each of which is provided with an arm at one end whereby theyare pivotally connected and a handle at the other end, of a cone or plunger rigidly secured to one of said members, and a holder pivotally connected to the arm of one of said members, and provided with an arm having an opening therein wherethrough the arm of the other of the frame members is extended, one of said frame members having a ring portion into which the holder can pass.
