Be it known that I, HZEMMcELDOWNEY, of Dixon, in the -county of Lee, sind Stnteof illinois, have invented :i new and improved Ventilating' Attachment for Millstones; and that the following description, take-n in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to,l forms-a. full and exact vspecification of the same, wherein I have set forth the'nature'zend principles of myr seid improvements, by `which my invention maybe distinguished from all others of ai'similair class, together'with such ps1-ts as I claim, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent.
This invention relates to c new and improved means forvcnusing a. circulation of air to pass down between` the exterior of the upper millstone and the curb thereof, whereby the stone is kept in a. cool state, and the Bour prevented from meeting, as it is technically termed. In the nccompanying. sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is at vertical section of the curb of u. millstonc, thestone not being in section, x x, lig. 3, indicating the line of section.
Figure 2, a, verticalsection ofthe c urb, taken in the line y y, 3.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. l Y Y A represents the upper Astonev of a pair of milltones, and B the curbthereof. Tonthe inner side of the l curb there is ittached s spiral flange, C, and`in the sidentv the curb, above the-flange, there is an opening, D,
and in the lower part ofthe flangeV there is an opening., E.
The stone A, byits' rotation, causes o. current of air to be drawn into or through the opening E, and the spiral flange C directs the current upward to the opening E. The aiigcfter it .entere the opening E, becomes slightly heat-ed within the curb, .and consequently rises, assisting the draught beneath theilange to the opening D. This current of air keeps the stone in a cool state, and prevents the flour or meal from sweittingf The invention may he applied at a. Very small cost. y Having thus described my invention, I 'claim as new, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent- The spiral ange C, at the inner side of the curb B, in combination with the' openings D E at the upper und lower parts of the curb, all arranged.s'uhstantiaitlly as and for the purpose set forth.
