GLOVE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 691,653, dated January 21, 1902. Application tiled August 9, 1901. Serial No. 71,514. (No model.)

Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. MURPHY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new vand useful Improvements in Glove-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in glove or other fasteners, and more particularly to that class of such fasteners employing a socket and a stud, one on each flap of the glove or other article, respectively.
The object of the invention is to obtain a very simple fastener, which may be easily secured to the glove or other article in a durable manner.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of my improved socket, showing the two members in position. clamping member of'said socket. Fig. 3 is a modified form of socket. Fig. itis a bottom plan view of the cap employed thereon. Fig. 5 is a Vertical section of a stud employing my invention.

As shown in Fig. 2, the cap B is formed centrally with a circular recess or depressed portion b and near its outer edge with angulaipoints or tongues of metalD D, cut from the body of the member or cap B and raised above the surface thereof. These points or tongues of metal D D are cut on the two converging sides of angles Whose base is not cut through, but is bent at said base and left on the body of metal of the cap B.
The eyelet C is of ordinary construction, flaring outwardly from its base and formed with a flange c, constituting said hase. A projection G is formed on the base of the flaring portion of the eyelet to assist in holding the stud in position.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings I have shown a socket employing a modied form of clamping member or cap. In that construction the cap E is struck up out of sheet metal and provided with a downwardly and inwardly turned ange e, provided with angular points or tongues of metal similar tothose described with reference to the cap B. An ordinary Fig. 2 is across-section of they with this the two parts forced together by suitable machinery, the pressure thereof causing the upper end of the eyelet to jam against the projection formed by the under side of lthe circular depressed portion of the cap B, or, as shown in Fig. 3, against the turned-over ange eand enter the apertures formed bythe raised points or angular tongues of metal, being thereby locked in position and constructing the completed socket shown in Figs. l and 3.
In Fig. 5 I have shown my invention applied to a stud, in which F represents the stud proper, which may be either spring or rigid and which is formed with a flange j', having raised points similar to those heretofore described. The stud is secured to the glove or other fabric by means of an eyelet in the same manner as the socket. While I have described and prefer to make these points or tongues of metal of angular shape and pointed, yet it will be apparent that I may cut them oblong or oblong and rounded on the ends or in any other desirable shape without departing in the leastfrom the spirit of my invention or in any manner affecting the purposes thereof. Also I may form any number of these points or tongues of metal upon the cap or stud; but' in order to serve the purposes of my invention it is necessary to have at least two.
This invention is designed to present a socket or stud of much simpler construction than those heretofore used,and yet one which will lock the parts together in a strong and durable manner. My construction of socket can be used with the ordinary form of stud and does not need a specially-designed stud,
and my construction of stud can be used with` an ordinary form of socket.

Amemberofaglove-fastenercomprising in its construction a clamping member provided with downwardly and inwardly inclined raised points or tongues of metal,struck from the material of the said member at a point midway between the center and outer l edge thereof, and an eyelet adapted to be sel cured in position by said clamping member, l substantially as described. l 5. A socket member of a glove-fastenerl comprising in its construction a clamping member or cap having raised points or tongues of metal, struck from the body portion thereof at a point between the center and outer l edge of said member or cap, and an eyeletl adapted to receive the head of astud, the construction being such that the eyelet will enter l the apertures formed between the raised l points and the body portion of said cap and i be secured therein,when the eyelet and clam pl ing member or cap are forced together, substantially as described.

In the socket member of a glove-fastener, the combination with an eyelet adapted to receive the head of astud, of a clamping member or cap formed with a central depressed portion, raised points or tongues of metal of angular shape formed on said cap at a point between the center and outer edge thereof, the construction being such that the depressed portion of the cap will guide the eyelet into the spaces formed between the raised points and the body portion of the member or cap, when the eyelet and clamping member are forced together, substantially as described.
7. In the socket member of a glove-fastener, the combination with an eyelet adapted to receive the head of a stud, of a clamping member or cap having a downwardly aud inwardly turned flange, raised points or tongues of metal struck from the body portion of said flange at a point between the outer edge and center thereof, the construction being such that the flange will guide the eyelet into the spaces formed between the raised points and the body portion of said flange and secure it therein, when the eyelet and clamping member are forced together, substantially as described.
8. Asocketmemberofaglove-fastenercomprising in its construction a clamping member or cap provided with raised points or tongues of metal struck from the body portion of said clamping member at a point between the center and outer edge thereof, said points inclining downwardly and inwardly, and an eyelet adapted to receive the head of a stud audbe secured in position by the said raised points, substantially as described.
