UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN E. SLICK, OF BRADDOCK, PENNSYLVANIA.
DUMPING-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 690,198, dated December 31, 1901.
Application filed April 19, 1898. Serial No. 678,132- CNo model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN E. SLICK, of Braddock, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dumping-Buckcts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view of my improved bucket, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
My invention relates to the buckets which are employed for transferring and dumping materials such as ore, and is designed to provide an improved construction of such buckets.
In the drawings, 2 represents the car or bucket, which is of general hopper shape and is provided with a swinging bottom 3, which is carried by pivoted links 4, connected to levers 5, which are pivoted to the top of the bucket. The arms 6 of these levers form handles for raising and lowering the bottom, and when in closed position the levers rest against the rear faces of stops 7, secured to the outer sides of the buckets. When the bottom is dropped by means of these levers, the outer arms of the levers contact with the opposite faces of the stop, th us limiting the downward swing of the bottom and holding it in an inclined position, so that it acts as a chute. I have shown the bucket as supported on a bail 8, which may be supported by hangers 9, depending from a trolley; but it is-evident that the bucket may be supported in any desired manner.
The advantages of my invention result from the simplicity and cheapness of the bucket and the arrangement of the bottom, which acts as a chute when in lowered position.
Many variations may be made in the form of the bucket without departing from my invention.
I claim-- 1. The combination with a hanger, of a bucket supported therefrom, and provided with a swinging bottom, a hand-lever secured to the side of the bucket, a stop on the outer side of the bucket, and a link connecting the hand-lever to the swinging bottom, the stop being arranged to hold the bottom in an inclined position when open, and to contact with the hand-lever when the bottom is closed; substantially as described.
2. The combination with a hanger, of a bucket supported therefrom, and provided with a swinging bottom, a two-armed handlever pivoted to the side of the bucket, a stop on the outer side of the bucket, and a link connecting the hand -lever to the swinging bottom, the stop being arranged to hold the bottom in an inclined position when open, and to contact with the lever and hold its upper arm substantially in line with the link, when the bottom is closed; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EDWIN E. SLICK.
