Description

Na. 689,9!3. Patented Dec. 3!, I90l.
m. RUBIN.
CLASP.
(Application filed Nov. 9, 1901.)
(No Model.)
WITNESSES: I ENTOFI Nrrnn STATES PATENT i Orrrcn.
MAX RUBIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLASP.
SPEGIFICATIDN forming part Of Letters Patent No. 689,913, dated December 31, 1901.
Application filed November 9, 1901. Serial No. 81,789. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAX RUBIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved clasp which is simple in construction, can easily be applied and opened or closed, and is held firmly and securely in place.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the views, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved clasp. Fig. 2 is a rear view opened. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view closed.
The front plate A, which may be ornamented more or less, has pivoted at its lower end to its back a swinging plate B, which is bent over at its upper end outward from the back of the front plate and downward to form a tongue 0, extending down to about half the length of this swinging plate, and below the pivot an inwardly and upwardly bent hook D is formed on this swinging plate, which book preferably projects beyond the bottom of the front plate. A looking or inner plate E extends over the lower half, more or less, of the swing-plate and is provided at its upper end with a flange F, on which the material of the belt binds, the edge of this flange being preferably rounded. The tongue 0 of the swinging plate is preferably provided at its free end with a transverse slot G for receiving part of the flange F. For the purpose of forming the pivot of the swinging plate part of the metal of the inner plate E is forced inward at the lower end of said inner plate to form a circular inwardly-extending boss H, through which two rivets a are passed which are also passed through the lower end of the front plate. The swinging plate 13 is provided at its lower end with a hole K of proper size to receive this boss, so that the swinging plate is pivotally mounted on this boss.
To apply the clasp, it is opened and the hook-tongue on the upper end of the swinging plate 13 is applied on the upper edge of the belt in such a manner that the upper part of the belt passes into it, and then the front plate is swung up over the plate B, causing the flange F on the inner plate E to force the belt material against the inner surface of the tongue 0 on the swinging plate or into the slot of the same-that is, to cause a binding of the material of the belt between the free end parts of the swinging plate B and the inner plate E. To open the clasp, it is only necessary to swing down the same.
The front plate A is provided at its upper end with a handle knob K for moving said plate or other purposes.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a clasp, the combination with a front plate, of a swinging plate, mounted on the back of the same to swing parallel with the front plate, which swinging plate has its upper end bent downward to form a hook, an inner plate extending over the lower part of the swinging plate and fixed in relation to the front plate, the swinging plate being mounted between the front plate and the inner plate, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a clasp, the combination with a front plate, of a swinging plate, mounted on the back of the same to swing parallel with the front plate, which swinging plate has its upper end bent downward to form a hook, an inner plate extending over the lower part of the swinging plate and fixed in relation to the front plate, the swinging plate being mounted between the front plate and the inner plate, and the inner plate having part of its material forced inward at the lower end to form a boss on which the pivoted plate swings, the swinging plate being provided with a hole for receiving said boss, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In a clasp, the combination with a front plate, of a swinging plate, mounted on the back of the same to swing parallel with this front plate, which swinging plate has its upper end bent downward to form a hook, an inner plate extending over the lower part of the swinging plate and fixed in relation to the front plate, the swinging plate being mounted between the front plate and the inner plate, and the swinging plate being provided with a hook at its lower end, substantially as herein shown and described.
4'. In a clasp, the combination with a front plate, of a swinging plate, mounted on the back of the same to swing parallel with the front plate, which swinging plate has its upper end bent downward to form a hook, a slot in said hook, an inner plate extending over the lower part of the swinging plate and fixed in relation to the front plate, the swinging plate being mounted between the front plate and the inner plate, which inner plate is provided at its upper end with a flange, substantially as herein shown and described.
5. In a clasp, the combination with a-front plate, of a swinging plate, mounted on the back of the same to swing parallel with the MAX RUBIN.
