TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, JAMES H. JONES, of' Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cheek-Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon. 4

` In the annexed drawings, making part of this specifica-tion, A represents a check-hook, to be used upon the saddle of driving-harness. This hook may be made in any of the known and improved forms. B represents the threaded lower end of the hook, which screws into the saddle-tree. C represents a roller or pulley,`which surrounds the hook just above its thread, and which is allowed to play freely upon the hook. This roller or pulley is upon that portion of the hook against which the check-line presses, and the line pressing upon or against the roller works freely when the horse moves his head from one side to the other. This roller prevents the wen-r incident to thehcheclvline when working against the ordinary cheelbhook` When leather is bent around the comnion 'check-hook,its inner side is roughened by creases or corrugations,

and when the horse attempts to move his head he does it with great diiculty, but with 'the pulley the line runs freely through the hook, and thus eases the bit in `the horses mouth, while it at the same time is prevented from wearing'by constant friction.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The smooth concave roller C, placed upon the hook A, with its screw B, in the manner herein described and for the purposes set forth.
