STOVE FOR HEATING PURPOSES.

Be it known that I, DANIEL WV. BOWMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and Stateof Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves for Heat- I ing Purposes, of which the followin gis a specication.
My invention relates to improvements in stoves such as are used for heating purposes and, further, such as are used for burning all kinds of gas, Vapor, and oil fuels; and the objects of my invention are, first, to econo'- mize the consumption of such fuels and obtain a much larger percentage of heat, and, second, to adapt one single stove to the use of a burner for the consumption and useof of these various kindsof fuel. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention complete. Fig. 2 is a vertical center section view of the same.

The burners and the piping and lighting system shown here are the subj ect-matter of a separate application, iiled March 2, 1899, Serial No. 707,485, and are used here only in combination and in a general way to show the features of the stove as adapted to its use and advantages.
Referring to the drawings, A is the base, supported on feet a a a, and the upper side of it is provided with a groove or odset inside of which the shell B of the lower damper or burner-chamber sets. This shell B is provided with two or more dalnper-doors b l) and capped by a damperring I above, which forms the base of the upper burner-chamber, which consists of the shell C and its doors c 'c and mica c c. A diaphragm H separates lthese upper and lower burner-chambers and forms a support for the burners to rest on and also forms a wall through which to admit the air from the outside into the upper burner-chambers by the outside dam per-ring .Lwith its openings and handlesjj, by which it may be partially rotated to open and close it, as desired.
A burnerD is arranged in the stove to show its location in the stove and the adaptation of the stove to lthe use of the burners and also the system of valves d and d and pipes d', d2, and da, which shows the feed to the burner D and the manner of taking oft the gas for the light, as indicated.
The burner-chambers are capped with a double-flanged ring K, which completes the stove up to the corrugated heating-drum E or upper section of the stove, and all of these lower parts and section described are secured together in the usual substantial Vmanner wit-l1 bolts and screws. The ring K is provided with a recess on its top side to receive the base of the corrugated heating-drum E, which projects below its base-ring L, and the two upper and lower sections are hinged together at this point by the hinge M on the back ofthe stove and the catch N on the front, locking over the lug n on the ring K, which hinge and -joint admits of free access to the interior ot' the stove above the burner, while at the same time when this upper sectionl is turned back a gravity-support P, that is hinged at P on the back of the stove, drops down and forms a support for it. The rising hot air is retained by and the heat radiated from the heating-drum E,and when it reaches the top of the drum E it may pass out through the register or top damper S in the top plate R, which register or damper is Operated by the knobs S S being slightly rotated. The ornamental cover T is provided with ventilating-holes, which allow the hot air to pass out into the room when the top damper is open. The ornamental coverT may be lifted `oil' at any time to set anything on the stove.

Having clearly described and illustrated my invention, it may be clearly and easily seen that I have provided for air circulation and easyaccess to all parts of the burner and control the inlet and outletof air to the heatingdrum, so as to obtain and throw oft' the greater amount of heat from the burners and from the drum, and by means of a branch pipe (121 provide a way to take off purified and enriched gas for lighting purposes.
