UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL-M. WIXOEL, OF MARCUS, IOVA.
FOLDING PASTE=TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 687,364, dated November 26, 1901.
Application led February 13,1901. Serial No. 47,125. (Nomodel.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. WIXCEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marcus,in the county of Cherokee and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Paste-Tables; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to use and make the same.
This invention relates to a folding pastetable, and has for its object to provide a folding paste-table that is compact, practical, and durable, and, further, provides a table that can be used in three dilferent lengths as required. I attain these objects by the device.
illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the table. Fig. 2 represents a plan of the table, sh'owingit partially folded. Fig. 3 represents a portion of the top of the table, showing the straight-edge. Fig. t represents an enlarged gross-sectional view taken on the line X X of A represents the top of the table and is composed of wood or other suitable material and is constructed of two lengths hinged together, as shown at B.
B represents a hinge of ordinary construction connecting the two portions of the top A of the table.
C represents the folding leaf of the table and has rigidly attached to its under side the strips D D, as shown in Fig. 2. One end of the strips D D extend beyond the end of the leaf and are hingedly attached, by means of screws or bolts, to the under portion of the ends of the top A.v
E E represent the legs of the table and are midway of their length crossed and rigidly fastened together X-shaped, as shown in Fig. 2. One endl of the legs E E are hingedly attached, by means of screws or bolts, to the inside ot the strips D D at the points F F.
G represents a brace hinged at one end to the legs E E at the point H and hinged at its opposite end to the center of the under side of the leaf O. The brace G has midway of its length a hinged joint, allowing it to be bent or folded upward and toward the leaf O.
I represents a brace hinged at one end to the legs E E at the point H and hinged at its other end to the center of the under side of the top of the table A at N, as shown in Fig.
2. The brace I has midway of its length a hinged joint, allowing it to be bent or folded upward and toward the top A.
N represents a hinge to which the end of the brace I is attached.
The top A of the table has a longitudinal groove K near one side, and along the edge of the groove is a straighteedge J, rigidly attached, by means of screws, to the top of the table.
In operation the paper to be cut is placed upon the table, so that its margin registers with the straight-edge, and while holding the paper firmly a cutter is run in the groove K and in contact with the edge J, thereby cutting the paper.
The table may be lengthened or shortened byuse of the leaf O as follows: The brace G is bent upward and toward the leaf C, and leaf C is bent downward until it is parallel with the legs E E. By this operation the table is shortened. To fold the table in convenient size for carrying, the leaf O is dropped downward, as above described. The brace I is folded upward against the top A, allowing the legs E E and the leaf O to be folded against the under side of the top A. Then folding the two portions of the top A together by means of the hinged joints B it will be seen that the table will be in compact form for carrying.
It is evident that slight changes may be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth; but,
Having described my invention, what I desire to claim as new and secure by Letters Patent is- In a table consisting of a hinged top having a groove near one side and longitudinally of its length, legs hingedly attached at either end of said top, leaves hingedly attached to either end of the top and to the legs, and having grooves forming a continuation of the tops groove, hinged braces for holding the legs at right angles to the top, and hinged braces connected to the legsand leaves for supporting the leaves.
SAMUEL M. WIXOEL.
