UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
OSOARWIEDERHOLD, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
MOUNTING FOR INCANDESCENT GAS-MANTLES.
srnernroazrron forming part of Letters Patent No. 687,360, dated November as, 1901. Application filed August 29, 1900. Serial No. 28,404. No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR WIEDERHOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Orange, Essex county, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mountings for Incandescent Gas-Mantles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to mountings for incandescent gas-mantles, and has for its object to produce a structure which may be utilized for safely transporting a mantle and for mounting the same in the gas'flxture.
To this end my invention consists in the special matters hereinafter pointed out in the claim.
My invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, which show one form of my invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view of the device. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cover carrying the plug, and Fig. 4: is a side view of the mantle-supporting cap.
In the various figures, in which like parts are indicated by similar reference-letters, a is the mantle-supporting cap, which is shown as cut in order to provide integral inwardlyprojecting spring-tongues b, which are adapted to springily engage the sides of the gas-fixture, burner-tube, or mixing-chamber, or the sides of the block a, mounted upon the cover 01 of a box b and adapted to be engaged by the spring-tongues b. The cap has a flaring or concaved portion a, and to this portion the ends of the tongues 11 are attached, so that the lower ends of the tongues are bent and flare outwardly, thereby increasing the resiliency of the tongues. The cap is likewise provided with a split tube e. The mantle-supporting wire f is inserted in the said split tube and being firmly gripped by the said split tube will be adjustable up and down therein and will be held by the said tube in any of its adjusted positions. The mantle g is suspended from the mantle-wire. A packing-box or cylindricalcasing his adapted to surround the mantle g and the mounting and fits into the covers cl and The mantle may thus be efficiently transported, and in order to use the same it is merely necessary to remove the cap a, carrying the mantle-wire and mantle, and to mou nt the said cap upon the burner-tube, it being understood that the springs or springtongues 1) project inward and are adapted to engage the sides of the burner-tube or mixingchamber in order to support the mantle on the lamp.
It is to be observed that the structure described herein is an improvement upon the structure shown and described in certain United States Letters Patent to' Theodore Mulch, No. 593,231, dated November 9, 1897.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
A mantle-supporting device comprising a collar provided with a mantle support and formed with a flaring portion, and with integral tongues the lower ends of which are connected with the flaring portion of the collar and are themselves bent and flare outwardly.
OSCAR WIEDERHOLD.
