Be it known that I, HENRY CLAY MANS- FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chico, in the county of Butte and State of California, have invented a new and useful Boot-Drier, of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to boot-driers, and has for its object to provide an improved device of this character which isespecially designed for domestic use and is arranged for the reception of a lamp or candle to generate the required heat. It is furthermore designed to arrange for conveniently removing a boot from the device and also to provide for readily assembling and disconnecting the parts of the device.

With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspectivev view of a boot-drier embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 isa central longitudinal sectional view thereof, showing a lamp for generating the heat. Fig. 3 isa detail sectional view showing a candle applied thereto. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the candle-holder.

In carrying out the invention there is provided a boX-likebase or support 1, having a hinged top or cover 2, which is provided with a central opening 3, the upper edge of which is rabbeted to form a marginal seat 4. Surrounding this opening is an upstanding metallic ring or flange 5, having a plurality of external marginal projections 6, that are secured to the hinged top of the base or support. Removably embracing this ring or Iiange is an upwardly-tapered metallic tube or chimney 7, the lower edge of which rests upon the support. An upper chimney-section 8 is removably fitted to the lower section by embracing the top thereof. The lower section is provided with a plurality of pendent and outwardlyflared springarms or spreaders 9, which are secured at their upper ends only to the outer side of the chimney and are designed to hold a boot-leg away from the heated chimney. Spanning the open top of the upper chimney-section is a bridge 10, formed by an inverted substantially U- shaped metal clip or strap, and an inverted substantially L-shaped brace 11 has its opposite ends connected to the intermediate portion of the bridge and one side of the chimney. These two parts form the boot-support without obstructing the open top of the chimney. The upper chimney-section is also provided with one or more pendent spreaders A12, similar to those described for the lower section.

Located diametrically opposite the brace 11 and hinged to the upper end thereof, which is projected laterally beyond the bridge, is a hinged boot or toe support 13, the outer free end of which is provided with. a pendent brace 14, that inclines inwardly toward the chimney and is normally received within a socket or seat 15, provided upon the chimney, about midway of the length of the upper section thereof. y

As indicated in Fig. 2, an ordinary lamp is provided within the base or support, with its chimney opposite the opening in the top of the base, whereby the heat rises upwardly through the chimney of the present device and is discharged` into the interior of a boot which embraces the chimney, as indicated in dotted lines, the sole of the boot resting upon the boot-support at the top of the device. It will now be seen that the spreaders hold the boot-leg out of contact with the heated chimney, so as to prevent injury to the boot. When the boot is removed from the device, the hinged toe-support is designed to swing upwardly upon its hinged support, so as to facilitate the removal of the boot.

Should it be desirable to use a candle, there is provided a candle-holder consisting of a base 16 to fit in the seat formed about the opening in the top of 'the support, as indicated in Fig. 3, and provided with a central candle-receiving socket 17, whereby the can- IOO dle 18 is supported within the bottom portion of the lower chimney-section in a convenient and effective manner.

In a boot-drier, the combination of a hollow base or support constructed for the reception of a heat-generating device, and provided in its top with an opening, there being aheater-seat formed around the opening and upon the outer side ot the top of the base, an open -ended chimney removably supported over the opening and the seat, and a boot-support carried by the upperend of the chimney.

5. In a boot-drier, the combination of ahollow base or support, having a hinged top provided With an opening, a marginal heaterseat formed upon the upper side of the top and surrounding the opening, an open-ended chimney removably supported upon the top of the support and embracing the opening therein, and a bootsupport carried by the upper end of the chimney.

6. A boot drier having an open ended chimney, and a boot-support consisting of a fixed member spanning the upper open end of the chimney and a movable member hinged to said fixed member and capable of a vertical swinging movement.

7. A bootdrier, having an open ended chimney, and a boot-support, consisting of a fixed member spanning the upper open end of the chimney, and a movable member hinged to the fixed member,and provided with a brace having a detachable supporting engagement with the chimney.

8. A boot-drier, having an open-ended chimney, a Xed boot-supporting member spanning the top of the chimney, a movable boot-supporting member hinged to the former member and projected laterally beyond the chimney, a pendent and inwardlyin clined brace carried by the hinged member, and a seat provided exteriorly upon the chimney and constructed to normally and detachably receive the lower end of the brace.

9. A boot-drier, comprising a hollow base or support, having a hinged top provided with an opening, an upstanding marginal flange surrounding the opening, a lower chimney-section removablyv fitted to the flange, an upper chimney-section removably tted to the top of the lower section, a fixed boot-supporting member spanning the open top of the upper chimney-section, a movable boot-supporting member hinged to the intermediate portion of the fixed member and projected laterally beyond the chimney, a pendent and inwardly-inclined brace carried by the hinged member, and a socket or seat carried externally by the upper chimney-'section and constructed to removably' receive the lower end of the brace.
