J. R. & M. P. HOFFMAN. FUNNEL- HOLDER.
(Application filed May 2, 1901..
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS ROBERT HOFFMAN AND MARIE PAULINE HOFFMAN, OF CANAJOHARIE, NEW YORK.
FUNNEL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 685,607, dated October 29, 1901.
Application filed ay 2, 1901. Serial No. 58,438. (No model.)
To all whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that we, JULIUS ROBERT HOFF- MAN and MARIE PAULINE HOFFMAN, citizens of the United States, and residents of Canajoharie, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Funnel-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved holder forsupporting fill-' ing-funnels over the bung-holes of casks, barrels, and like receptacles, and which is simple and durable in construction and arranged for convenient and secure attachment to the receptacle to properly hold the funnel in place and to allow ready escape of air from the receptacle to insure a free flow of the liquid from the funnel into the receptacle.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the im provement. Fig. 2 is asectional side elevation of the same as applied, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same as applied and with the funnel in position.
The improved funnel-holder consists, essentially, of a support A, preferably in the shape of a ring, and from which depend clamping-arms B and rests O. The clampingarms 8 are preferably made of spring metal and are formed at their lower inwardly-bent ends with outwardly extending hooks 13, adapted to engage the material of the cask, barrel, or other receptacle D at the wall of the bung-hole D, as is plainly illustrated in.
dentally moved out of position when applied. When the device is in the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and as above described, then the funnel E can be readily placed in the holder, the body of the funnel resting on the upper edge of the ring-shaped support A, the side of the funnel extending through the bung-hole into the receptacle, so that the liq uid poured in the funnel readily flows into the receptacle without dangerof spilling. By the arrangement described the lower end of the body of the funnel does not fill or close the bung-hole, as is the case ordinarily, but
release the arms, so that the hooks engage v the wall of the bung-hole, as previously explained and shown in Fig. 3.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Let'- ters Patent- 1. A funnel-holder having a support for a funnel, and clamping-arms depending from said support and adapted to pass into a hung hole to engage the wall thereof, as set forth.
2. A funnel-holder having a support for a funnel, and clamping-arms depending from said support and having their inner ends bent. inward and formed with hooks for engaging the material of the-receptacle at the bunghole, as set forth.
3. A funnel-holder having a support for a funnel, clamping-arms depending from said support and having theirinner ends bent inward and formed with hooks for engaging the material of the receptacle at the bung-hole, and rests depending from said support and adapted to be seated on the outer surface of the receptacle, to hold the support a distance above said receptacle, as set forth.
4. A funnel holder, comprising a ringshaped support, spring-arms depending from I names to this specification in the presence of said support and having their lower ends two subscribing witnesses.
bent inward and formed with ontwardly-exi r A tending hooks, for engaging the material of the receptacle at the bung-hole, and rests depending from said support and engaging the \Vitnesses:
outer face of the receptacle, as set forth. HARVEY DUNKEL,
In testimony whereof We have signed our STAFFORD MOSHER.
